^^^Oh man, your gonna have fun in FL! You havent seen nuthin' yet!

"I pay more for car insurance down here than I ever did up North. SC is even more than NC....it's because of all the uninsured, fake driver licenses driving people..."

^^^ It's funny to me when people in NC complain about people w/o drivers licenses and bad driving habits... like I said before Mrs P, choose VERY wisely if you are moving to FL.

well I tried to post back and the computer froze, hope this one goes through

Like I've posted before I think its funny as well that people think NC or SC are havens. They have just as many problems that Florida does. I guess it's what one wants.

As far as the driving and the population factors, figures showed that CA and AZ had the 1 and 2 spots for illegal immigration....3rd was Charlotte NC metro area (Concord NC is considered in that area). I just didn't think it was a fair representation of the posters take on Concord for other who don't really know the area. I lived there 3 years.

Anyway yes, I am taking into consideration things you have posted in regards to the bad things in Florida. I made a huge error in moving to NC. I based that on coming down there for 30 years 1-2 times a year to visit my family (who've left Charlotte because of the issues there) My family is 3rd 4th and some 5th generation N Carolinians. They are still in NC but out of Charlotte.

I had never paid attention to TV when I was visiting, I had never really driven much either. However once I moved there, it was a big awakening.
Much too much to post about. But things that we just take as normal like good milk, street lights, 30.00 driver licenses etc. My first license was 250.00 because one from out of state has to pay a one time "highway useage fee".

Street lights, who would of thought they aren't around? Even on Charlottes main freeway around their downtown area no street lights. For me, that is something I can no longer live without. I must have street lights to drive at night...so I am a vertual prisoner here after 6 pm in the Winter. I have to rush out of work to get to the store if I have to go during the work week.
It's just very stressful.

So if I move ? This time I will rent and stay a few months to see how it is.
Check the TV news, see if I can drive at night, see if I can find decent food, instead of overfried cuisine. You know we all live in one country, and I guess we take things for granite. That was the biggest shock, who would of thought driving would end up being such an issue for me? Because I came from a mid sized to small town, and street lights were everywhere never knew I would have such a hard time driving down here, until I actually lived here...never again

But I do have a question for you, how about Saint Petersburg what's your take on that town? I haven't been there for 30 years, though I have been to Florida recently.

Mrs P, I like St Pete, but it is right there at Tampa's doorstep, which I wouldnt like. Tampa crime, road rage, and traffic are right on par with Charlotte/Orlando. I think Tampa was once one of the most dangerous cities to live in the US, and I think it was 2nd to Miami in the road rage department, just so you are aware. But I think St Pete itself is really pretty. The gulf is prettier than Atlantic Ocean, and there are some nice, southern feeling, quiet towns more inland in the Tampa/St Pete area that are nice places too. I would highly recommend them over Tampa/Orlando/S FL. I would also recommend Northern FL, which to some is like a different planet compared to S FL. I like Yulee, St Augustine, Green Cove Springs, and Southside Jax'ville. These are just my opinions, I am trying to help and I know that if you dislike CLT, then I can guarantee you will not like places like Orlando, S FL, etc... that's why I am telling you "like it is" in those places.

Our native language in America is English and if you are going to join an American board, you have to speak English, otherwise we don't understand what you are saying.

Like the bumper sticker says: Welcome to America... now speak English!

as my Grandpa used to say, owe our native language to our Mother Country "across the pond." It is not our language, but their's. We only put our own stamp on it.

Chicago and SF Bay area and some shorter times overseas... back here for a few years for school, but will leave again when I'm done... I guess it goes without saying that it is obvious there are no comparisons to either of those cities in FL or the south east for that matter.

San Francisco, CA - Loved it, but real estate was too expensive. I currently live in Alaska and go to uni in Boca Raton, FL. Once I'm done, I'll move probally to Vegas...I miss city living. You can't find it anywhere in Florida. Maybe once I'm ready to settle down I'll come back. Florida, especialy South Florida isn't a bad place, just a bit boring.

Thank you. I have never considered a move to the East side of Florida, though I have family that has lived there since 1962. Guess they like Florida as they only came home one time in all those years, for a brief visit.
Anyway, no I don't want to live in a big city. Maybe 10 to 20 miles from a big city, but not in the city of say Tampa, which to me is just like CLT.
Reading the recent crime stats (I go by the FBI ones) I realize that my take on where I live is correct. I also realize that my take on where I'm looking to relocate is correct as far as crime. But that's not my only consideration on moving.

I had the opportunity one time to take a month and go down one coast of Florida, and come back up the other coast of Florida, and I too fell in love with St Augustine more than any other city, alas I don't wish to live on that side of Florida. But it is my all time favorite Floridian city hands down.

My long time best friend (since I was 15 and am now 56) lives in Bonita Springs, she is desperately trying to get me to come down there, whereas I am leaning a bit farther north in St. Petersburg. The panhandle is beautiful too, but I think I will defer on that area for some weather and different types of reasons.

Again thanks for your help

How do you like living in Alaska? Anything to do there?
