Oh sure they lowered the millage rates by what, .05 percent from before? Meanwhile assessments have gone up as much as 10 times. That's why I can look forward to paying 10 times as much in taxes as I did in 2000, brilliant!

Actually, they have gone down in many places a lot more then that. In answer to the original poster though, taxes in Florida are not going up just property values. That is much different then what is implied by the title of this thread. That has happened all over the country to some degree and even more so in some areas of Florida.
But they are now going back down, which should require reassessments to match the current market values. That may require home owners to do it themselves by making a dispute. I did one a few years ago and they reduced the tax on the property by $2000. They had some how screwed up the sq. footage on the building and I guess some computer billed me higher. It was a quick fix once I pursued it.

taxes for a house in PBC. That property costs what it would cost me in NY metro area/ Nassau Couny. I am not talking about Western NY.

I owned a home in NY long island. Not just the taxes, but the additionol cost of living drove me out of there. Why the hell would I pay 500k in Valley Stream. get ripped by the county, insurance companies, oil companies and every other fee to perform some duty. I love NY but for me when I was starting my family it was to much. I did not see any value livig there.
My annual homeowners is the same here in Florida as what it was in NY. But according to posters the hurricanes are making us pay hand over fist. Thats if you live in a flood zone or beach area.
I love Tampa, not just for the quality of living but for the opportunnity it gave me. Nothing was easy. i just took the chance and seized the opportunity. And now at the age of 31 i own my home outright in a beautiful community and hold a small percentage of a car wash. I don't care how I made it. i just care that i made it! So if anyone is biased from moving down here don't sh*t on there parade out of pride and wanting to thump your chest over whose state is better then mine.
I have nothing but utmost respect for entrepreneurs who dare to dream and take action on those dreams. If they made EASY money I see them no different than someone who worked for thirty years saving. It motivates me when I see innovative, aggressive, savy individuals.

Then you by no means fall into the category of people we're referring to. It's one thing to make a living and yet another thing to do it with such greed that you know your victims are doomed to fail.

Thank you for that. I would have loved to make a killing on each home, but I have friends for life from the people we sold to.

Exactly !!!!
Well said. Most, not all Mortgage Brokers are well trained to do this and can sleep at night without any problem. They are just one group of the herd that preyed on people during this time.
It is the same thing the credit card companies did in the 80-90's, way over did it and that led to the huge amoun tof bankruptcys we had in the late 90's early 00's, now they reformed the BK but still didnt fix the problem, bankers, loan officers, brokers, realtors etc are all trained in financial areas and all of them know many of the homes they helped with were way to expensive and overpriced when they started the loan. They also knew the buyers were like Jammie said "doomed to fail".

If you ask me, the credit card companies are getting worse and worse each year! Record-high profits from nefarious "fees" and interest rate hikes for day late payments!
And THEN our "for the people" conservative Congress a couple years back made it HARDER for people to declare bankruptcy, favoring big business interests instead! Because we all know that corporations have such a miserable lot dealt them in this country in the first place!

hey, nobody is twisting your arm when it comes to using credit cards, if you don't like the terms or the fees nothing is stopping you from cutting those cards up.

Please.
