When it comes to the gender wage gap, Florida women are facing more of a chasm. The issue is one that will reach the nation's capital today, as advocates take part in Equal Pay Day, an annual public awareness event. The April date represents how many days into 2007 women have to work to catch up to what a man earned in 2006.

Was found that one year after graduation, the women earn 80 percent of what their male counterparts earn. After a decade, that figure falls to 69 percent.

In Florida, women who are college-educated and work full-time earn an annual median salary of $42,401. That's 70 percent of what men males with the same education level make. It's also far behind the best locales - West Virginia and Washington, D.C. - where the gap is at 89 percent.
