I know this is an old post, and maybe someone addressed this further in, but 6 days and 2500 miles??? That was some scenic route, lol.

Now, after reading all the threads about Palm Coast, it has made me wonder whether I was driving around with a blindfold around my eyes the whole time or maybe I'm just insane.

It's interesting that you'd think there was something wrong with you instead of the other folks.

Pirate Girl, I will let you know when I'll be down. Feel free to tel your single friends about me. I'm currently looking into homes for rent around there now & like you said, there are some really good deals. FYI, I'm going to make some posts from things I've learned from my experiences about the area like home designs, what the area has to offer, lifestyle & more. Heck, I think once I'm done there I'll get a job with a newspaper & write some editorial gossip type articles, etc.. I love to write & PC could use an eager, energetic, enthusuatic writer like me. But I better be careful because if I'm too good I'll be selling the place like crazy - causing everyone & their brother to move in. PC is crowded enough IMHO. :-) PC is paradise & a nice oasis to definitely improve ones quality of life. I really wish I was there now as I can't tae the cold anymore & depressing grey sky. It makes a lot more sense to live where it is warmer & the folks are more laid back, less stressed & friendly. Even when I was driving around there looking at homes I was meeting all kinds of people. I told them I don't live there yet. Even 1 German lady invited me over to have tea.

Looking for that Reason To Move to Florida? Here are a Few....
Looking for that Reason To Move to Florida? Here are a Few....
If you are on the fence about moving to Florida, here is a list of some great reasons to move to Florida:
- 1350 miles of coastline! Shelling anyone?
- You don't have to move here when you retire!
- All the Jimmy Buffet songs are true!
- Great place for tourists because we are so patient with you silly people.
- native "Floribbean" cuisine
- Sea Gulls, nature's garbage disposal.
- Dolphins, Manatees and Eagles live here!
- The sun spends winter here!
- Walking on the Beach at sunset!
- From any point a beach is no more than 60 miles away!
- Work is what we do when we get a chance to stop playing.
- Downtime is a fine art here!
- Spring Break comes to us, not the other way around!
- We didn't invent margaritas, we just perfected them!
- It is just like the Midwest & Northeast, without the snow, ice, rat race, stress, bad food and grumpy people.
- The good thing about our rain is that by the time you finish reading this list it will stop.
- More than 1,000 Golf courses allow us to research if there is such a thing as too much GOLF!
- We were good enough for Hemingway, not to mention Madonna, Versace, Trump and a few other you may have heard of...
- And the most important reason -- over 6 million Floridians can't be wrong!

When someone asks about Palm Coast they want all opinions. Not just good ones. I post mine and let them know that it took me 2 minutes to know I would never live there. I visted several times (I'm in the Daytona area so it's not far to go to check it out). But each time I get the same feelings about the place.
But like all things, liking a city/town is subjective. We look at the same town and you love it and I don't understand why anyone would want to live there. But that's what keeps the world going. Could you imagine if we all picked the same town/city to live in? We'd have NYC all over the country!
If you like it and it felt right then you should go there. Everyone likes something different and everyone's ideal place of where to raise their kids is different.
Like the previous poster said about comparing.... I just think there are SO many nicer places to set up camp in Florida than to go to Palm Coast. My question for anyone considering the place would be "why???" You get cheaper housing. You know why? Because the place is not desirable. What's the attraction? There's nothing there except half built communities, many of which have no sidewalks, very limited businesses, no place to work, etc.
For example, how much is there for your kids to do? What about extra cirricular activities like dancing, sports, gymnastics (whatever they are into). Will you keep driving to other areas for those things? Just move to the other areas. I can't see the savings on the home price being worth everything you will give up by being there.
One more thing that I just thought of.... why is it that if someone is considering moving to a place that they can't bear to hear anything negative about the place? If people (more than just one person) are saying something negative about a city it doesn't hurt for you to take the things into consideration. Perhaps they don't bother you or you don't feel they pertain to you, but it doesn't hurt to hear the other side.

I'm in Idaho and have been considering relocating from this frigid climate to sunny Florida. Palm Coast grabbed my eye fairly randomly because of low home prices. My husband is ready to retire, but I am younger and we have a 16 yr old son who is the Varsity QB and a 13 yr old daughter who does ballroom dancing. Does anyone know where ballroom dance is offered in Palm Coast-Daytona vicinity? Does anyone have info on Matanzas High and their football program?

It's a putrid little town that is as petty as can be., inhabited by all those who thought they were finding a bargain in real estate. Matanzas High is new and their football program, like the rest of the town, is rather raw. If you feel akin to rednecks and New Yorkers it might be your cup of tea, but even than it is not certain.

Don't base your decision on what you've read on here without first visiting the area and while you're at it, spend a week or two visiting different parts of the state. Not long ago I was also interested in Palm Coast and decided to check it out and after two days I decided it wasn't for me. I'm not going to bash it but , it wasn't what I expected. While down that way, I traveled to a half dozen other towns I had heard about. A year later we went again and revisited a few and some new. We finally settled on the Homosassa/Crystal River area on the west side of the sate. I now have a contract with a buyer for my house and will be moving there in about six weeks.

You know, it's the PEOPLE who make a town attractive. When I was considering Palm Coast, I also checked out other areas. I have family and friends ALL OVER Florida. When I was driving through neighborhoods in Palm Coast, every person outside in their yard, or walking down the street waved at us, even though they did not know us. That's what makes a true COMMUNITY. I highly doubt the people who DON'T like Palm Coast would wave to passersby.

I absolutely agree. The people here are unbelievably friendly. Everyone waves to everyone. Even the kids out playing wave to passerbys. We've been here 8 months now and we still love it, although buying a house has turned into a nightmare. Everything is a short sale and there's nothing short or predictable about short sales.
