I hung out in Edgewater park near the Throggs Neck Bridge when I was a teenager. I'm 53 now. So that was in the late 60's early 70's. PS 14, JHS 101 and Christopher Columbus HS. Seems like sooo long ago. I Love Florida, But you need a good stable job to make it here. The weather is great, but the cost of living is pretty high. Wendy

1. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Florida? We came from CT 3 1/2 years ago.
2. What was the most important reason you moved to Florida? my husband's job, also, our taxes in CT were so high that we could not afford our house any longer... our mortgage payment (well, the escrow) was getting higher every year, so we were having to sell anyway, so it was a good time to make a long distance move.
3. What make you pick the area you moved? it's where DH was offered a job
4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move? well, I'd say it took 2 years for me to start calling Florida "home," but even after the first few months, we were pretty comfortable.
5. If you had to do it over again would you still move, if no, would you have chosen another area in Florida? Yes, we love it here! (If you ask me at the end of our very long and hot summer, though, I might answer differently. )
6. Is your "overall " life better or worse in Florida then where you moved from? Better: I have more friends, the weather is gorgeous, there is tons to do with kids, we live 5 minutes from a harbor and 30 minutes from the Gulf, it's great!
7. Would you recommend others move to Florida? I guess it depends on why they are leaving where they're coming from! If you hate the heat and are terrified of big bugs, then no, Florida is not the place for you. Or if you can't imagine a winter without snow, then nope. If you're open to the different climate, though, and want to live near the water, near DisneyWorld, want to be in the south but not The South (Floridians are not "Southerners" for the most part)... sure, give it a try!

1. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Florida?
Indiana (Lake County) and 21 years.
2. What was the most important reason you moved to Florida?
Parents moved me here when I was eight, because Mom's parents had moved here and she wanted to be near them again. It was great to be with them, but they died over 10 years ago and now the rest of us have no reason to stay.
3. What make you pick the area you moved?
My grandpa was out of work, and my aunt, who was down here traveling with a carnival, called home and told my grandparents to come down, that there was work here. So they did, to a place an hour away from Tampa. That broke my mother's heart, so we followed them down about a year later, which broke mine...
4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move?
I had no choice but to "adapt" in some ways, but what can I say? I hate it here!
Just last week I asked my family why we're all still here, and if this is really the place they want to spend the rest of their lives. My brother told me there's a 100% chance he will follow me if I move, and my parents are now looking at houses online!
5. If you had to do it over again would you still move, if no, would you have chosen another area in Florida?
I would never come here on purpose, not after living here in this oppressive, humid swamp with 50,000,000 different kinds of bugs, a school system with rude "teachers" that was way behind my old one and screwed me over so much that I had to be home schooled in high school, and oh, I could go on and on.
6. Is your "overall" life better or worse in Florida than where you moved from?
Worse, a lot worse. In every way.
There's not a lot you can control about your life when you're a kid. Even at 29 some things are bigger than you. Sometimes it really is necessary and good to move on and start over in a different environment.
7. Would you recommend others move to Florida?
No. I always warn people away... I know some people like it here (usually those born and raised) and that being stalked by a sexual predator could happen anywhere, but I personally have no reason to recommend Florida.
Come and experience a beach, an amusement park, and then run away as fast as you can!

922099 sorry it didnt work out for you. Everyone has there own likes and dislikes, for me its quite the opposite, I first visited Florida 27 years ago and now wish I would have moved to Florida then.
My wife grew up in Florida as a kid and loved it, father moved them here because of a nice job offer, 5 of the 7 kids ended up back in Florida and wife will make 6 soon.
FIL has passed and now MIL wants to move back to Florida when we go. The only one who has stayed here beside her is a plant manager at a large plant in central Ohio and is retiring in 2010, already bought a home in Winter Garden where they grew up.
So your 29 and just now realizing you dont like Florida?

1. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Florida
Connecticut 15 years
2. What was the most important reason you moved to Florida?
Family
3. What make you pick the area you moved?
All family lived in Dania
4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move?
About 5 minutes
5. If you had to do it over again would you still move, if no, would you have chosen another area in Florida? I moved from Hollywood (got too crowded) to north Port
6. Is your "overall " life better or worse in Florida then where you moved from?
Soo Much Better
7. Would you recommend others move to Florida?
Definetly
Many of us want and are looking to move to Florida and who better to ask them those who have done what we want, move from somewhere else to Florida then you guys.
Would not leave Florida for all the tea in china
Many posters on this board seem to be extremely happy with moving there, whether they moved 30 years ago or 6 months ago.
I moved to th e EC 15 years ago and have been on the WC going on 4 years
If you have any opinions/advise on anyone moving to Florida, what would they be?
Research where you want to live as some places are alo t cheaper than others.
When we moved from Hollywood to North Port our car insurance went from 1500 a year to 600.00 for both our trucks.
Although I would like to keep this positive as possible, the bad is also welcome for those who have moved there, that way we all can judge for ourselves what you would consider bad or good and see if it would mean the same for us.
Input appreciated !

I came here on vacation, met my husband and stayed.
I hate it here. Too hot, low wages, poor job outlook, high homeowners insurance, high utility bills, etc.
I got laid off last year. If my house was worth what I paid for it I would get the hell out.
