Does a pedestrian safe city exist in Florida?
I know that in Pinellas and Tampa... you are risking your life if you try to ride your bike or walk anywhere.
Is anybody familiar with ANY city that is pedestrian friendly in Florida?
One where people actually give the pedestrian the right of way and dont cut them off in the crosswalk to turn?
One where you can ride your bike (being green ) to the stores, work, and back home?
One where your kids can ride right next to you and you dont feel like youre risking their lives as well as yours??
JUST wondering if a city like this exists in Florida.... and if not here, where exactly would these kind of places exist? Oregon or Colorado maybe?

I live in a big master-planned development of about 10,000 people. The original developer was a German industrialist who was apparently big into the volksmarch stuff, and the development ended up being very pedestrian-friendly. We've got a handful of 'main line' streets and all but one of them have sidewalks or recreation paths, a couple nature trails through the woods, and it's no problem to ride a bike to the grocery store/commerical area, elementary school, or the pools or tennis courts.
There are probably a couple similar megadevelopments in other parts of the state.

I was going to ask where this was since your profile says Niceville, FL (and I figured there was no city named this... so I found your zip in your profile and I looked it up and holy moly there is actually a city named Niceville in FL.

I'm actually just outside the city limits of Niceville, but that's what our mailing address is.

You have to go to a place in FL where people arent rude as hell, which as a native, I can tell you is getting harder and harder to find. The reason people dont give the pedestrian the right of way and cut people off is because a lot of angry people have now made FL their home, and they bring their arrogant and selfish ways with them. They care about themselves first. My suggestion, find a place with more native Floridians and more of a southern feel to it, and usually you will find more thoughtfulness and patience - that's the truth.

it sure isn't safe in boca. is dangerous just trying to get from my car into whole foods and back.
i stop at beach crosswalks to let people pass on my way around on A1A and people honk and scream at me!
boca does have a nice beach path for bike and pedestrian traffic, which is better than a lot of places I drive through, though. b
Nowhere else do people get irate when I let pedestrians cross the road but between spanish river and the broward line. especially at the golf course at like N 15th or whatever it would be a1a 33431 boca
once upon a time i was a bridgetender, so i especially don't feel the need to please traffic. . .but still. . is just weird. if you are in a big hurry a1a is a bad idea! try another road or getting a grip (most things really aren't that important) AND driving another road

Venice Florida is a walkable/bikeable town. I and many of my friends and neighbors walk to downtown, grocery, shopping, restaurants, beach, parks etc. There are still the odd tourist or texting driver that are a little confused and don't yield to pedestrians in cross walks.
