Are property taxes and homeowner's insurance as high as places like Sarasota? Do people who live in Gainesville make the drive to the beaches or do they consider them to be too far away? Thanks

Not sure, you might want to ask in the Ocala forum-geese-what a cultural shock, NYC to lil' ol' G-ville. I hate G-ville personally. It's a college town.

The drive isn't too far to the beaches.

Keep in mind that Gainesville is absolutely a student town-- which I don't think is a bad thing but I'm sure some people hate.

Property taxes are high in the Peoples Republic of Gainesville.

An additional gasoline tax of 5 cents per gallon was added last year by the Cadre at City Hall.

Lots of students go to Crescent Beach on the weekend. Cedar Key is on the other coast but it doesnt have a nice beach unless you have a boat to get to an off island.

Lots of spinoffs from the Univ do offer a lot for a town this size though.

1 1/2 hours or so to the beach from G'ville...think long and hard about where to settle in Florida. PS- I lived in NYC for 8 years and I adjusted well (after about 2 years, LOL).
