Good to great beaches run from Marco Island up to Ft Myers, Sanibel - then as you get to Venice the sand becomes black (if memory serves me correctly). Then as you get up to Sarasota and north it gets wide and good beaches. Lots of info out on the web. Enjoy your trip. .

Bring a mask and snorkel- you can see lots of sea life in relatively shallow water- and find some beautiful shells on the gulf coast too.

You're kidding, right?

PERONG,
Depends on what you're looking for. Just the beach, or museums, shopping, restaurants, etc. Madiera Beach, Sanibel Island & Lido Key are my faves. You can just kick back at any of them or enjoy what those particular areas have to offer. Lido, (or pricier Longboat Key,) great beaches, swimming, fantastic food & shopping at St. Armand's Circle, plus the Ringling Museum of Art. Mad Beach, close to John's Pass with restaurants & shops. Sanibel is kind of spread out & less touristy, greatest shells anywhere, but less swimmable than the other 2.

Have a great time!
