moving to FL next year... can't decide where. HELP!
can anyone help me??? i'm moving to florida next year (summer time most likely) and i know i want to be on the east coast... mainly because i have friends up and down it... but i'm not sure WHERE. daytona is too far north so i'm thinking jacksonville and south. i'm 27, single, no kids. where would be the best city (close to the beach) for me? thank you so much in advance for any suggestions!

Actually, Daytona is about 80 miles south of Jacksonville.

Melbourne, Palm Bay I have lived in and I liked it there. Daytona is one of the last places I would move to here. St. Augustine, Palm Coast.... Nice.

i have friends in melbourne and palm bay. no i take that back, they both moved and now live in indian harbour and indialantic. honestly i think the space coast is about as north as i want to go. i'm leaning towards west palm beach right now, but to be honest, i'm REALLY worried about being able to find a job! now i'm almost second guessing moving at all

WPB is a rough area. I have been there a couple times, yuck, also don't ever consider Fort Pierce..... THAT is a dump. Indialantic, and IHB are VERY nice. It all depends on your line of work, it's tough here. My wife has been out of work since OCTOBER... She is in retail. You have to come here with money in case you have to hold out on a job. AND make sure it's what you want.

so ALL of wpb is rough? i've seen a lot of cute condos there and that's what intially made me like it, but i don't want to be somewhere that isn't safe. i do however want to be somewhere that has a lot of stuff for someone in their 20's, single etc....

Well, from what I saw it looked kinda ghetto. BUT I do not nor have I lived there, so I am no expert on the place. I did look at the crime level there and it is 4 times worse than the national average, and 3 times more than the Florida average. Not as bad as Fort Pierces 6 times worse. Vero Beach is a nice city, I lived there for 4 years loved it there. NICE beaches.
As far as jobs go, apply everywhere, and until you get a solid job, stay where you are. You are smart by waiting. It's people that move here with dreams of a full time vacation, sun, palms, beaches, then don't find work first then when eveything collapses says how Florida ruined thier life. Been there, but it wasn't Florida that screwed up, it was my own fault. Well, now I am doing great, have been for a while, just got a better job, and grateful for what I have in FL.
A place for someone in thier 20's.... Well Melbourne and Palm Bay are really not hot spots, actually not much from Daytona to miami are exciting. Vero is a beach city really. Safer though. I just have been told anything below vero Beach with some exceptions is not great. We down here always tell everyone, come here for a week or 2 and look around where you "might" want to live, and see for yourself.
