Holidays in Florida, input wanted :)
Hi all,
I'm Belgian (Europe) and will be spending two weeks of holidays with my girlfriend and parents in Florida in September.
It's our second time in Florida so we know basically what's going on there (and we like it) but this time my parents are coming down as well and as these folks are already a little bit older (60-65) I'm looking for some alternative activities for them.
We are certainly going to visit Orlando, Miami Beach, Key West and Islamorida again. My parents are not really the biggest fans of Disney parks and they are also not going to spend one week on the beach so can you give me any ideas on the following topics and where we can find them :
a) national parks (anything else then the Everglades). My parents love nature so any hints for other national parks are welcome
b) educational stuff : e.g. Kennedy Space Centre, museum,...
c) Walking/bicycle routes or interesting boat trips
d) any other relaxing tips for older people
e) "alternative" amusement parks suitable for older people : eg Seaworld, Animal Kingdom,...
PS : all other hints for Florida are welcome as well. We're booking the holiday this time ourselves via the internet so any tips from locals will be highly appreciated.

I would try Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven. It is beautiful and you don't have to go on the roller coasters to have a really good time. It is very reminiscent of Old Florida and has some of the most beautiful garden I have ever seen. Also, while you are in Orlando check out on of the Airboat rides in Kissimmee if you get your way down here. Have fun!

I would suggest posting this question on http://www.tripadvisor.com which is geared towards vacations/holiday information. You will get more information there.

Myakka Park in Myakka - great wilderness, natural park with airboat rides to see lots of gators and birds. I worked there one season, and LOTS of European visitors came to this park. Very nice!

Anna Maria
Check out Anna Maria Island north of Sarasota. It's a nature lover's paradise, without the typical high rise condos you find elsewhere on Florida. But it is also very convenient to Sarasota/Bradenton/Tampa.

Anna Maria is a great choice. I have spent the last 15 years or so going and staying for a week or so.
