Florida's flu cases
Swine Flu Weekly Surveillance Reports
Flu case levels are extremely high in Florida, it's because of the H1N1 virus. You can see that hospitalizations and complaints of flu like symptoms are skyrocketing and are way higher than even for the normal flu season. It seems as if when school got back into session, flu cases started soaring. Almost all of the flu cases are due to the H1N1 virus, as shown in one of the graphs.
This report is updated weekly, every Thursday.

I wonder how much of this is due to the high number of tourists in the state?

I don't think tourist affect the numbers of flu cases. More to do with hygiene and being in spaces with lots of people. Can you image a High School for instance, as people pass through the halls, touching things as they change classes every few hours. How many people touch one door handle in a day, 100 people????Maybe even more, for that one door handle. Now if one of those 100 is sick and the other 99 touch the door handle after that sick person. You can have a huge majority pretty sick pretty fast. And as we all know children are not the most hygiene aware people today. Fall is also the time of year many sports groups compete and train, so close contact there too for these children.
I will tell you this, I have hand sanitizer is my car, and every time I get into my car before I start the engine, I use the hand sanitizer. Will it work 100%, who knows, but I am sure it will help a little.

I agree, handwashing is probably the best defense. In this day and age I still see probably 20% of the people leave the rest room without washing their hands. My husband says it's closer to 50% in the mens room. And guys wonder why I don't want to shake their hand when they come into my office?

That is true if people often wash their hand will be less viruses spreading . People shoul be more clean and think about others.
