So...due to 3 warnings in 4 weeks after the change in enforcement, I'm wearing my damn seat belt.
But I'm angry! To me, Florida stating that this is a safety issue is freaking absurd. In a state where I can drive a motorcycle without a helmet, yet I have to wear a seat belt while I'm surrounded by a ton of steel...c'mon! Is it not obvious to everyone that it's nothing more than a new revenue stream for local and state governments?

When I was in an accident and totaled my SUV, the cop said two things. You are lucky you were in the car you were in and you are lucky you had your seat belt on. I walked away from the crash. Thank goodness for the seat belt and the airbags in that SUV. In my car now, I have the annoying seat belt reminder bell on and it goes for like 5 minutes or till everyone puts on their seat belt in my car. Most people after 2 minutes in my car are so annoyed by the bell, they put their seat belt on just to stop the thing. I hope you never will be in an accident and need your seat belt. After a while it becomes a natural habit to get in the car and put the seat belt on.

Blah, blah, blah. Look, I'm glad it saved you. I'm glad it saves lots of people. I completely agree and understand the reason for making the decision to wear one. But it should be my decision to make. Hell, they let me make the decision to smoke, drink, eat Twinkies and loads of other serious affronts to my health. So why the seat belt then?

When I don't have to sit in traffic because they're peeling your ass off the pavement, causing me to be late for work or picking my kids up from school, then I'll listen to your whining about wearing a seat belt.

Exactly as my very good friend "Doggiebus"
experienced, I totalled a brand new truck and the seat belt absolutely saved my life. I normally didn't wear them and resisted as long as possible but my new truck had that obnoxious bell that made me crazy.
The sheriff's deputy that showed up at the scene asked where the driver was taken...I said it was me and he couldn't believe I was uninjured. The truck was upside down and smashed to pieces. He went out and bought one like it...Really!
I hope you're able to dislike your safety belt for a long, long time.
