Quick question: Some friends of mine are wanting to go down to Key West during a few days in-between Xmas and New Years, and none of them have been before. They're going for 4-5 days/nights for a photo taking vacation to get some shots.

So far all of the usual touristy sites are coming up with a price range of $300-$400 a night for places down there during that time, but I told them I'd venture into the Florida room and ask if anyone can recommend a place or places that might not be so much in the radar that are decent and cost a little less.

If anyone has any recommendations just send me a direct mail and I'll pass it on to them. Thanks in advance.

The further from Duval street they look it will get cheaper, they may just have to drive into downtown Key West and park instead each day. Not sure how it is this year with the economy, but people usually book their hotel rooms a year in advance for this time. I went down a few years ago at that time, and it was like 200-300 a night if I remember correctly just off of Duval, and I booked that in July then. So the sooner they book something the better.

Yeah, thanks for the input. I found out from him just today, that they're all postponing the trip for one week until just after Jan 1st when the rates drop. I think they honestly thought they were going to find a place for $59 a night at the last minute during that holiday week. Sigh.

Not in Key West, the week between the holidays is always a busy one and expensive. I have friends that stay at the same B&B each year, and book a specific room, year after year. And when they leave, they already have it booked for the next year. Well glad to hear they are going to go still, and saving a lot of money at the same time.
