How are construction jobs in Pensacola?
Hi. We are trying to decide where in Florida to move to. It is between Pensacola or Orlando. My husband is a plumber so we were wondering how constructin is in the Pensacola area. I'm thinking Orlando would be a better choice. More plumbers listed in the Yellow pages there! Any opinions?

I don't have any major answers for you but my husband is in the hvac world to
and I seem to have pretty good luck with indeed.com they have tons of listings.
Our biggest challenge is that we have a pretty specific area we want to be in and
he also has a desk job now (likes it alot) and does't really want to be out in the field, so more of
a challenge again. Good luck.

I know two plumbers in the Orlando area who were laid off. I would make absolutely sure you've got jobs lined up before moving anywhere in Florida.
By the way, just because they are in the Yellow Pages it doesn't mean they are still in business. I called three places before I found an appliance repair place still in business from the Yellow Pages earlier this week.

Are you talking about new construction of housing for plumbing or just repairing problems in existing homes? There is not really a lot of new construction of housing with all the existing houses sitting empty from foreclosures in many areas of Florida. Commercial construction is down to minimum in Florida, too. Lots of buildings sitting half done waiting for better times or to be torn down.

Don't even think about coming to SW Florida right now looking for construction work!

Both of the plumbers I know who are laid off are residential repair/rehab types of guys, not new construction. I know someone who is unemployed. One of her toilets isn't working right, but she's not going to spend the money to get it fixed. She turned off the water to it (it was leaking) and just uses her guest bath now.

Oh he can do either but prefers new construction (commercial). He's done it all in the plumbing field. I'm not really liking the idea of Pensacola. To close to AL and MS. I HATE it here with a passion. I've been to Orlando a lot and it is totally different. Tons of different types of people. But this Southern thing is getting on my nerves big time. Sooooo many stinking racist whites here and way too many long haired long skirted church types who think their "stuff" doesn't stink! I'm ready for a big city again.

Pensacola is still the Deep South. Pretty much all of the Panhandle is outside of Tallahassee and Ft. Walton Beach.

Agreed, most people I know refer to anything west of Tally as "Eastern Alabama."

Anything north of Ocala is pretty much like AL or GA.
