Hi, we are looking to relocate to Florida in one of the following areas: Tampa Bay, Cape Coral, Sarasota, Miami. Pleasure boating is a big part of our life so we want to pick a boating friendly area that has plenty of water destinations such as night life, restaurants, etc.. We plan to do a lot of day and weekend trips.
Can anyone provide some insight on these areas? Specifically on:
1. Slip availability
2. What are advantages/disadvantages for boating on the Atlantic or Gulf sides?
3. Are bugs a big problem with boating in these areas?

1. At one time slips were harder to find. Now with the economy down it's probably easier.
2. Gulf side is generally calmer more shallow water. Atlantic gets deeper much quicker. There can be some pretty long runs on the gulf if you are fishing off shore.
3. That depends more on how developed the area you are in is. Mosquitoes are pretty much everywhere. No-see-ums are much more plentiful when there are mangroves and less development.

As a newcomer,I think that Mia is unbeatable...

The temptation to go to Bahamas with your own boat is irresistible...

Or to Cuba,some day ...

The Gulf areas have a subtle clustophobic feeling,as if u have a room with...back view...

So,my recommendation is definitely for Mia.
