it gets a little cooler (I am talking this time of year in the 50's and 60's in central FL at night, because of course its off when its colder than that) what do you do at night to keep comfortable? There is no way in heck I would ever leave my windows open at night! I'm too scared! Home invastions are real. I cannot believe the number of people who say when the cool fronts early in the fall season come, they love sleeping with their windows open. Are you guys for real, or am I just overly neurotic?

Nancy

Home invasions are mostly targeted, but a run-of-the-mill neighborhood burglar is definitely of concern. You can always put one of those cheap sensors on your window if burglaries are a major concern in your neighborhood, although is a lot of people leave their windows open, your house isn't any more of a target than it usually is. Some people also have second floor windows and a burglar probably isn't going to climb up a ladder when they can find a first floor house to break into.

I keep the windows open but it is all dependent upon the area and how your house is situated.

My property is fenced and they will see the "Pitbull on Guard" sign, if they decide to come through they will see the ADT security signs by the garage and then if they decide to keep coming the next thing they will see is my tactical shotgun.

But as I said it is dependent upon the area and even if I didn't have the dog and shotgun I would not be worried.

we open our windows at night when it's cool

i have locks on them all so they only open about 3", if anyone tries to open them past that point and succeeds, they will make a LOT of noise

oh, a 12gauge, and some miscellaneous other weapons come in handy too

Windows are closed due to a variety of allergies as well as safety, but I keep the ceiling fans on to circulate the air so it feels very comfortable.

Cool the house down before you go to bed and then raise the thermostat so the central air clicks off.. Turn it back down if need be the next afternoon.

A ceiling fan helps too.

The way it looks round here, it will be a least another month before that is even possible. And even longer in South Florida.

a box fan blowing right at your face will make you feel 5-10 degrees cooler.
