Default Insurance rates

OK, we are from Miami and we are considering moving to GA because of our taxes and insurance rates. My question is to others in FL, How are your insurance rates? My insurance went up from 1800 to 6000 and it kicks in now in May. I have considered relocating to Melbourne or Orlando but I can't afforded those insurance rates. I currently have a 3/2 and also pay 4300 in taxes after my homestead.

My taxes and HOI went up alot this year, I have to pay taxes but I don't have HOI anymore. I will just roll the dice if I have to rebuild oh well. I never put in a claim from the other storms and still paid. I just think 7k is a little high.

Have you shopped around for other insurance yet? You may not have to settle for that rate. Good luck!

I'm in Orlando. I have a newer (2004) home 6/3 3200+ square feet and pay 4800 in property taxes and 1600 in HOI. We were paying 700 HOI until last year when our company pulled out of Florida. However, we got quotes from 3 other companies fairly easily and they all quoted around the same figure of 1600. I would think your insurance would be significantly less here in Orlando than in Miami.

Rox011

Check some of the posts by Sunshine State. I just had something in there recently. My house is 3/2.5 and my premium is $6489, renewed in December. I am looking into other coverage. I got a quote for Citizens through a different agent and it's almost $2600. Problem is I would have to have NO coverage for Citizens to insure me so I'm working on cancelling mine, even mid-year and seeing how I can get Citizens. If you're up for renewal, DON'T. Check Citizens or Lloyds of London perhaps first and don't renew your current if it works out better for you.

P.S. I'm in City of West Miami

I currently have Citizens. This has just become so stressful. I am flying into Atlanta next week to see some neighboorhoods but I am leaving Miami for sure. Very sad, all my family is here and I know everyone is going through this. Something has to be done.

Rox, shop around. Ours went from $1300 to $2800 and we called around until we found someone who'd insure us for $1800.
