Wink Let's Hear From All The Floridians: What's It Like In Your Part Of The State?

Ok, Florida is a big state with lots of regional variety and even two time zones. Tell us what life is like in your part of Florida. First off, where do you live(roughly if you don't want to get too specific) in Florida? Are you in the Panhandle, Central Fla., North Eastern part, South East or West coast, Keys? Are you living in a rural area or one of our major metro areas? What is the weather like in your part of the Sunshine State? How about the geography- tropical, swampy, hilly? How about the foliage, Orange groves, Oak trees or Palm trees? Finally, what are the people like, Southern or a lot of transplants from the Northeast or Midwest? How's the crime? So, what is life like for you in your section of Florida? Thank you and have a great day, ..lil red..

Panhandle, rural, 73 f. today for a high / 50 f. overnight , hilly, palm trees/maple trees/those rubbery-leaf trees , people are very nice , very low crime, life is nice here and on a scale of 1 thru 10 Id have to give it a solid 8 . It would be a 9 if the next door entitled Dog Owner would make his Dog stop whimpering every 4.5 seconds for hours on end.

Naples, SW Florida. Record breaking heat (90s) for the past week. They say we are getting a cold front in a few days and the temps will drop into the 70s and 50s at night. Record breaking "cold" for this time of the year. By the end of the week it will be back to "normal" in the 80s and 70s at night. Lovely (sic).

Naples is considered a "city" of 21,000. Snowbirds, the backbone of this place, are already starting to arrive. However, I do not consider myself a "Floridian", only a temporary resident until I can move away.

I am in the Daytona Beach area, which some say is northeast FL and some say is central. Its very touristy here. We thrive on special events like Bike Week, college spring break, Nascar races twice a year, etc. Our biggest tourist season is summer, but we also have some "snowbirds" who live here in the winter. The geographical area is pretty flat and we do have a beautiful beach, which you can drive on! We have had record breaking heat for the past two weeks, but by Sunday the high temp will be in the 60's and lows in the 40's. I have seen temps as low here as 17 and as high as 104, both rare though. We have seen actual snow twice based on what I remember and flurries maybe once about every two or three years. Some winters don't even bring a frost and some bring several freezes. We can also have winter days close to 80 degrees. Hurricanes have happened and we had three within 6 weeks in 2004, but that really is rare. Daytona appears to be more like a suburban area. It is definitely not rural, but not a bursting metropolis either!

Well I am in Palm Beach county in Boca though am moving at the end of the month to where I have no idea. Anyhow the area I am in is filled with snow birds and is upper class. In general it is older obviously from the snow birds. There are some nice people but in general I have not felt that warm feeling but I have only been here a short time. It is safe though and very pretty. We have had record highs too in the 90's this week and basically all summer but I think a cool down is on the way.

Today is a beautiful 66° here on the ridge in central FL. I'm in a laid back area without all the concrete jungle. Nice to go to town shopping with out having to wait at a single stop light. A traffic jam is three cars stopped at a stop sign.

Vero Beach where they just celebrated their 90th Birthday. Small town, nice people, great beaches, safe, you need to travel for excitement.

Default Tallahassee, Capital City

Tallahassee: A little bit of everything.

Here it is the land of hills, big ups and downs, and not very flat.

We have 5 protected Canopy Roads which are beautiful

We are 18 miles from the coast.

We enjoy nice falls and winters!

We have 2 Universities and several other colleges.

You can pretty much get the best of all parts of florida here.

One nice thing is the lack of people. Its not overcrowded like south florida.

Pensacola, FL. It's very high crime. My ex worked at a Waffle House just a few miles from my home and one night she came home with blood on her and said that type people got in a fight and stabbed each other in the store and she got blood on her. A few weeks before that, there was a shooting in her parking lot. When I was a kid, we had people try to break in our house, and one day when I was in my front yard, two high school age kids were walking along the street with a shotgun in their hand. Yes, it's THAT bad here.

Pensacola has beautiful beaches and a beautiful downtown as well as one nice mall (the other two malls closed down) however, the rest of the area is pretty ghetto and run down. It's flat here for the most part but a couple hills here and there. Pensacola has the 9th worst pollution in the USA. School system here is ranked as one of the worst in Florida and I hated it growing up, lots of fighting and whatnot in the school.

Pensacola has 4 or 5 military bases in the area, so most of the work is healthcare or tourism. There is very little jobs in the area other than those, and nurses only make around $12 an hour here. Average rent is $600+ a month, and my electric bill has been $250+ a month for a small 1300 sq foot home with two people. There are no IT jobs in this poor excuse of an area to live and I have been unemployed for 1.5 years.

I cannot wait to get away from this place, or as I like to call it... tropical wasteland.
