If you arent retiring and have no (or little capital) why move to Florida?
I am curious about this. In the US 98% of wealth and property is inherited or handed down.
If you do not have a career/ or are transferring with your profession, WHY are you choosing Florida? I am curious as to why Florida still appears to be the "mecca" that California was in the 1970's.....

The weather...
I can't tell you the number of people who have told me just that.
I moved here for work, I stay because I LOVE the weather...
I make a habit of being friendly and talking to strangers and asking them just that...why did you choose to live in Florida...many have said they came for vacation and decided to move after that.
Ever once inawhile I run into native...

right, so they liked what they saw on vacation...
I loved Oahu but it is prohibitively expensive to live on Hawaii. Is that their main reason for moving there?

we are moving to Florida basically because of the weather in Maine.
Wife really cant drive i nthe snow and gets Panic attacks, we honeymooned in Florida and have talked about moving ever since.
Now we are up and doing it, its hard leaving al lthe family behind. We are goig nt orent for a year and decide what we wil ldo after that, if we arent likeing it as much as we figured or miss home too much we will go back.
But you dont know how somethign is till you try it right

Oh these people from most of the threads I have read are moving to get away from the snow. Yet they think Floridas weather is so great because we don't get snow. Florida has weather issues, they seem to push aside and say its not that bad in Florida compared to X, or it's way better than snow any day (which it may be for the elderly). Just wait till they spend Mid-May through October in Florida. Hell this December and January were in the 80's in Miami with humidity not really the weather that puts you in the holiday spirit, like crisp air does. I don't understand why they don't look at North/South Carolina, were the summers are shorter, they have four seasons and they don't get much snow (if that is what they are running away from). But I also think many people have and idea of florida from when they were kids or when they vacationed in Florida, how wonderful the weather was. But we all know being on vacation some place isn't the same as living in a place year round.

I would consider living in Hawaii if I could afford it...
Someday I want to live in the Carribbean...still close enough to the US to get here rather cheaply but surrounded by the deep blue sea...
I wonder what the stats are on how many people come to Florida just for the winter...I imagine its alot...all because they can't take the cold weather.

I think they believe life will be one long vacation. I am not being sarcastic, having lived here I might as well say my whole life, that is the impression I have always gotten. They would come in my bar and I would here the stories and all the optimism. Then six months later they would be trying to sell their TV and furniture and head back to where ever it was they came from.
