I have to agree with how you have described South Florida. If you go a little further north into parts of Palm Beach and martin County the beaches start to get better as there are less condos built right up against the beaches. Those counties actually left the beaches pretty natural. The weather I totally agree with, we really don't have great weather, I too would love to get outdoors much more often but its just to miserable outside to stay out there to long. That said there are plenty of people that seem to love the heat and humidity year round practically. North Florida however is different however they get a cool down in October that lasts through May usually.

They drive so fast, and road rage.

There is a lack of public transportation that is easily accessed, and convenient.

I've found many are rude. This one is a big pet peeve of mine.

Oddly enough the beaches here are too built up (too many condos, hotels, and shops) could be that I'm spoiled due to other beaches that I have experienced.

The cookie cutter houses aren't really my thing.

It's very flat.

The bugs.

Those are a few things. Truth is it's not just one thing. There are a large number of things and many little things that I can't even put my finger on. We live in south Florida and nothing about it is friendly, progressive, and no matter what it just doesn't feel like home.

It's just not my cup of tea. I am so very happy for those who do love it, but I really can't wait until we can move.

Ya know, I didn't actually vote because "approve" isn't exactly helpful...I tried to point out a few good and bad points about living here.

I DO plan to leave as soon as possible. I don't discourage other people from moving here at all. Different strokes. We can't all like the same things, thank goodness.

We moved here for (soon to be ex) husband's job. Lost our home to Charley, got screwed on insurance, lots of people left the area, the balance of bad things began to outweigh the good.

I try to stay positive. I have to be here for a while longer. No sense in being bitter or negative. But the part of FL where i live just isn't intellectually stimulating, it's very difficult to find like-minded people, and it's not a very diverse area. Which is fine for some people. For retired people who spend a lot of time beaching and fishing and boating, it's heaven. For those of us still working, especially in fields where we desire a bit of advancement in our careers, this part of FL doesn't offer much opportunity.

I'm just going to say this: I like Florida. I'm sorry for the people who do not. There are 49 other states here in America, maybe one of them will be better suited for you.

Doggiebus, I do agree that northern Florida is quite different in several ways.

Yellfire, I also agree. I am a positive person naturally and always in a good mood so I certainly make an effort to focus on the good. I do agree with a lot of what you said in the last paragraph.

Suncoast Guy, that there are and I know there are plenty that are very suited for me and I can't wait to be there. Hopefully sooner rather then later.

No other state has FL weather. Most retirees emigrate to SoFl,to warm up their frozen bones...
Or you like it a lot better elsewhere, I'll take California Mediterranean climate any day over what FL offers. I'm no retiree, but if I was a retiree and had money I would pick coastal california any day over FL, same with Hawaii also.

I think the big flaw is not in the poll it is with some posters that did not take the time to read the OP.

I looked at those that voted "No" and saw quite a few that are not Floridians.

With that in mind I would expect the final tally to end up somewhere around 65%-70% approval.

I voted No, but then again there sould have been another option like yes and no...

I say no because I enjoyed living in Tucson, AZ very much and I really like Ohio. I would move to another state if I could as long as I could make a living...comfortably...

And then again, I say yes too-I don't hate Florida, I am a true blue Floridian. I was born and raised here (in Miami) and honestly there are parts of Florida I really enjoy. I really like my hometown Miami, the Keys (I lived there for years), and Orlando. I have lived all over the state and those are my preferences. I live in Tampa Bay right now and don't mind it, but it's not the ideal place for me (here only due to my fiance and his father).

Would I steer people away from Florida if they were interested in moving here? Ofcourse not. Florida isn't so bad, and certain areas are nice.
