Hi, I am looking for a coastal town in Florida that has a main street shopping/restaurants/coffee shops. I am looking for a town that has an old style feel. No big block stores or strip malls. It has to be safe and be in a good school district. I love Winterpark. That is exactly what I want but near the ocean. Any suggestions?

St. Pete Beach fits your description to some degree. There are plenty of small shops, though there is a heavy emphasis on the tourist aspect. The south end of town, Pass-a-Grille, has a very old feel to it, while the north end has many houses from the 60s and 70s. I have no idea what the price range is for anywhere in town. There is one major strip mall, with a Publix, CVS, and stores like that. You'd be in the Pinellas County District for schools. There's Boca Ciega Elementary in St. Pete Beach itself, but everything else is on the mainland. You'd probably be zoned to either Boca Ciega High School or Lakewood High School.

I would suggest:
New Smyrna Beach (Flagler Ave neighborhood)
Daytona Beach (Seabreeze neighborhood)
Anna Maria Island (Bradenton)
Delray Beach
Amelia Island (Jax area)
and a stretch (but possible good fit for you) would be downtown Naples (Fifth Ave or Third St areas).

Vero Beach??? haha I don't think so. We're always in the car headed south to W. Palm Beach for any real shopping experience or for decent restaurants. I suggest Delray Beach, Boca, and W. Palm Beach.

Stuart? Has a cute downtown district with restaurants and shops, good schools, on the ocean, driveable to Palm Beaches for "bigger" shopping, but has everything you basically need close by (Treasure Coast Mall, the big box stores as well).

I nominate Surfside - it is a small, friendly community on a barrier island directly north of Miami Beach. It's mostly single-family homes on a walkable street grid, but has a nice downtown area and some condominium towers right on the beach.
