Key West Hotels
Hello everyone. This is my very first post so please bear with me if I make any mistakes. My husband and I are wanting to make a trip to Key West in mid December and are thinking of staying at the Southernmost Hotel on Duval Street. I would appreciate comments from anyone else who has stayed here as far as is this a nice, clean hotel, close enough to walk to all of the restaurants, bars, etc. further up on Duval Street. Also, is it safe to walk back to this hotel in the evenings? Thank you.

It's not really that close to the area with all the bars and restaurants--about 2/3 of a mile or so to the Mallory Square area, and not in an area I'd want to walk through at night. You could always take a pedicab, but if you really want to be able to walk everywhere, that wouldn't be my first choice.

annerk is correct in that Southernmost Hotel is at the quiet end of Duval, but for some that could be a plus. It's in Old Town, and in my opinion it's close enough to be convenient to the bars and restaurants, yet far enough away that you have a bit more quiet and privacy. I've never stayed in that hotel, but I've been to Key West three times over the last few years and I've never felt uncomfortable walking around in Old Town - especially on Duval Street - any time of day or night.

Key west Hotels
Thank you for the quick responses. Does anyone have any other recommendations for a nice hotel perhaps a bit closer to the restaurants, bars, etc. on Duval Street?

We stayed at the La Concha last summer. Tiny rooms but clean and comfortable. We were right over Duval and were never bothered by noise--the windows were double paned.

The Hawk Key or Kay Resort was/is running a special $99 a night...it might still be going on...but it is on it's own island...I have stayed at the Holiday Inn on Duval which was perfect for us...you could try these sites for a little more info keywesttravelguide.com and keysnet.com

Key West hotels
Thank you everyone for the info. I am checking these hotels out on the internet, and they look great and in wonderful locations. Now I just have to make a decision on where to stay.

Just to let you know Key West is nefarious for pricing all of its hotels exactly the same price.
I went there and all the chains were 100.00 + a night, the kid working there showed me the price list for every other hotel on the island all coming in nearly the same rate.
I ditched and went up to Marathon and stayed for 60.00

If you do stay farther up in the Keys, DO NOT stay at the Buccaneer Inn.
Total dump!
