Heck no it does not make sense, but that's the way these guys operate. Its not protect and serve, its pillage and profit. In the old days the cop would say hey your close to your house get home don't drive this car until you get this worked out. But know its run like a business, revenue is all that matters. I got stopped for an expired tag (less than 6 months) in FL not so long ago. Deputy advised me to get it taken care of as soon as possible and off I went. He could have issued a summons but if I showed proof of registration to the court within 10 days it would be dismissed.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that from the moment he pulled you over, you showed him respect, was polite, and non-confrontational. In most cases, in matters such as yours, you treat them right, they treat you right... but say or do one thing that they feel is confrontational, you're toast!

I could not agree with you more. I got pulled over once before that. My new insurance card was on my kitchen counter. Ticket, dismissed when I sent in a copy of the card and $10 administrative charge.

I had no idea my registration had lapsed.

I have a question. I just went to renew my tag. I was told there is a stop on my registration and it can not be renewed until I pay almost $400.to the expressway authority. That is toll roads like the 408. I do not drive on the 408 I live in Sumter county and don't travel to Orlando often. I had a transponder in my car that disappeared , could this outrageous bill be from someone using that transponder? Will an officer give me a break while I try to resolve this issue or am I headed to tickets and jail?
