Hello!! Considering a move to Melbourne also. Besides the winters being like paradise what else do you like about the area? We would be moving from LI, NY, are you a native Floridian? Appreciate all input on the area-housing, schools, shopping, etc......
Thanks!!!!:

housing: south/west of Melbourne is Palm Bay, you can find nice/new homes for about 220K, may be 1900 square feet. Prices have been dropping slowly.
Melbourne: crime is relatively low compare to West Palm Beach or Miami.
I would say it's a pretty safe place. Job wise, not a place with a lot of options. Of course, there is a wal-Mart every where!
the insurance issue is still a headache.

Thanks for the info, Cougar. Hmmm...market is not that bad, just like up here in Canada. I am glad to hear that it is dropping though. As for jobs, I am in the IT industry so hopefully there are some jobs down there. What's this about insurance? Is it really expensive?
Thanks!

Hello Everyone! About the "native floridan" being rare, how about a long time resident then? Or, how about a fairly new resident of the area (Melbourne) feel about everyday life? The schools, shopping, housing and general feel of the area. Thanks again and look forward to all the replies and opinions.

Just curious by what makes you pick Melbourne or Coco Beach?
Are you going to just move down and hope to find a job?
Isn't having dual Citizenship great? I love that I can live in either country.
What part of Canada do you hail from?

Well, I am taking BIT course right now and I am hoping to find something down there when the course is done. I don't have a dual citizenship yet, however, I will be certified to work in both Canada and the US and also the UK. I have been told that there are a lot of IT jobs in the US.
I am from eastern Canada. The reason I picked Cocoa/Melbourne area is b/c my parents spend winters there and I go there every year to visit them. I just love that area. How did you end up having dual citizenship? Where are you originally from and are you currently living in Florida?
