Sandra Mama is on a distinguished road
I was born and raised in Naples, Florida moved away with husband for 6 years in Southern Indiana. I miss Naples badly, plan to move back asap. I heard houses are at there lowest RIGHT NOW! Trying to sell our home to move, fingers crossed. Naples has beautiful beaches and homes. Great schools and lots to do!! Close to all kinds of mini vacation spots!! Face it.. I just miss the taste of salt water!! lol As a child I swam in the lakes, jumped off bridges with my 4 brothers, swam; it felt like the entire ocean and played in the woods. Caught baby gators and rattle snakes. Ask me to that now.. it would be NO! Let me find out my kids do it!! No!! lol I have never gotten bitten by anything there except for sqitters! But we have those here in Indiana too. Yes, flash floods and hurricanes are there. They come and go and more than most of the time they are not severe. What about tornadoes?? They are in a lot of the USA?? I am more scared of them then anything. Yes, its costly there but there are no county taxes are taken from your pay and you get what you pay for. Naples, Florida is gorgeous!!! On my way back soon!

I can't wait to get out of this hellhole in a few years, back to Texas, my home state. I can't speak for all of Florida, but in Orlando, and I assume most FL, things are just so completely backwards, no progression at all and it seems Orlando likes it that way. Most of the people whom I work with have never lived in a large city, except (drumroll) NY/NJ. I rarely meet anybody from out west, and the few I do say they are going back. Everything that the people here say is very true, the rude people, the spanish people who try to make FL their homeland where they fled and refuse to accept they're in AMERICA NOW, crappy jobs (very slave-like) the need to basically have some kind of assistance to live here (medical, food stamps, etc) Most people I know work 2 to 3 jobs and have NO LIFE AT ALL, nobody here can have a decent political, sports, or religious discussion (all they do is nod their head and say "yep" to everything you say) no independent thinking for themselves, $8.50/hr is "livin' it up YO!", the monopolies here (energy, Disney, etc) Progressive Energy anybody?! Nobody I work with has probably uttered that word before and has no idea what a monopoly is either. The abundance of 1 way roads around here where you'll get stuck behind someone driving 20 mph under the speed limit and you're stuck, no REAL radio stations, and the ONLY reason the Orlando Magic stayed here was because of the new Arena, they were so close to leaving and they should have. Employers and coworkers don't respect the hardworking people, MANY, MANY, MANY and did I say MANY BACKSTABBERS and TWO-FACED people here. I could go on and on but I hope you get the point, oh yeah HOT HOT HOT HOT and HUMID HUMID HUMID, God's waiting room. Good Night. One more thing TOLLS, and guess what, they usually have only 1 toll worker so all that time you think you are saving by spending money on the toll actually takes you longer because some toll roads are backed up for MILES because nobody wants that crap job.

Just have to add, how about 6 to 8 people living in a 2 bedroom condo.

Real life conversation between me and the Osceola Fire Marshall:

Me: "Hi, how are you doing today, I hope you can help me out. I was wondering what the Osceola County limits are for the maximum amount of people living in a home are. I assume there's a limit for your Fire Code hazard around here."

Fire Marshall: "Well we don't have any limits on how many people can live in a house." (sounds kinda redneckish)

Me: "Are you serious?"

Fire Marshall: "Yep, no laws against it."

Me: "Uh, so basically I can cram 10 people into a 2 bedroom apartment and I won't be breaking any laws, right?"

Fire Marshall: "Nope."

Me: "Wow, I can't believe that. (Marshall chuckling) You would think they would have some kind of Fire Code for safety reasons and such. OH WELL WELCOME TO FLORIDA!"

Fire Marshall (laughing): "yup, haha!"

click.

No lie, the Fire Marshall had no clue what he was talking about and didn't really seem to care. Come down to Florida, the next Wild West, where nobody cares down here, not even your so-called protectors, paid with your tax dollars BTW.

Interesting, as the same could be said for other states as well...we rushed my dh to the hospital last sat at West Boca Medical Center and let me say, unbelivable experience.......I had quiet a few neighbors where I used to live who went to school in florida and all graduated from FSU, FAU and there is another one and well they do very well for themselves in life...again, everyone looks for different things and what is good for my family might not be good for the next. but u know people can run run and run but no matter where u go there will problems thats life but I know that obviously not EVERY child in florida is stupid...and when I was researching Charlotte I heard so much negativity about how awful the schools were, well let me just say where we lived the schools were excellent, and my friend lives in charlotte and her kids are doing fantastic....despite people saying different.....

we relocated here for alot of reasons, we were going to retire here when it was time...lol......and we are very happy we made our move...because something doesn't fit for someone doesn't mean its a bad place to live and that is for every state..I do laugh though that everything is so negative...

So you hate Florida again now that you're back - funny, because I saw some of your posts a while back on the Texas board and you were bashing that area, too.

I cannot wait to retire and move out of Naples, Florida. I don't like living in a contrived tropical resort with year round heat and humidity. For me, 70 degrees is lovely in August (right now in NY), but depresses me in January. I want 4 seasons with COLD and SNOW.

Besides, it is very expensive going back and forth to see my kids. We have to go through hoops to plan holidays together.

FloridaMD is on a distinguished road
For me it's a few things. I've been down here for 9 years now. I think the biggest thing is the heat and humidity are really just wearing me down. Every summer it seems to be affecting me more and more. With the abundance of sunshine and being outdoors a lot, I have really noticed the sun damage to my skin. I'm fair skinned to begin with, and am already getting areas of my skin that may be showing some pre-cancerous changes, and I'm only in my mid 30s! I think I need to go somewhere a little more overcast with a lower sun angle.
Other problem, being in the central Florida area (but I saw this in South Florida too) is the crime is just becoming unbelievable. You listen to the morning news, there are at least 2 to 3 murders, home invasions, drug busts, child victimizations going on every single day. I don't know how many seemingly normal people, moms and dads I have met that have cocaine parties or smoke meth. It's like there's a total disconnect between having a normal everyday life and a drug life. Maybe this is also happening all over the country (I hope not), but I have noticed a real degradation down here in the past 9 years of morals, friendliness towards others, and basically lack of respect. None of the younger kids coming up even think it's important to finish school, have ZERO goals for their future, other than working fast food or Wal-mart and continuing to live with their parents. Seems to be just a disregard for common decency and basic law and order. People throw garbage right out their windows onto the sides of the road. They really don't give a crap. You try to talk to people, especially younger ones, and all you get is this glossy eyed look as they have no skills to carry on conversations. Education system down here is terrible.
As I said, a lot of this unfortunately I bet is being played out everywhere in the country, and maybe is a topic for a different forum, but it just seems so magnified down here. None of the communities even have enough money to do anything about it, since either half the people have walked away from their homes/got foreclosed on, or values have plummeted so much there is no tax revenue base left.
