Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties (the Keys) are all known for their established Hispanic-American populations. Broward County has had large growth in the Latin population in the last 20-25 years as well. Whatever anyone on this forum may claim, the truth of the matter is that most of the Latin population South Florida is middle-class and English-speaking. There are, of course, some neighborhoods of more recently-arrived immigrants that speak better Spanish than English, but these areas are most certainly not the majority of South Florida.

If you want a listing of specific neighborhoods, please see my more detailed post I made in response to the question you asked in the Miami forum.

The waterford lakes area of Orlando isn't majority latino but it does have a large latino population and they all for the most part speak english fine, never run into ppl who can't speak english. I do here some speak spanish, but thats just by choice, not because they cant speak English.

They most all speak english. You do run into some who don't but you can be sure they are in the process of learning. Sure you hear them talking among themselves but they can speak with you. I was always sorry my family never spoke Italian in the house. I am a first generation American and I think I missed something. I can hardly speak Italian at all. My father was so pro American we had two pictures on the living room wall as I grew up. A picture of Washington next to the current president.

I think it is good for people to keep some of their heritage. I honestly think the loyal Americans are those Immigrants who came her for a new life and love the US. Many risking their lives just to get here. Most Americans born here have no idea what a gift they have been given just through birth. They just pi$$ it away often and don't have a clue what hard work and sacrifice even is.

Mango, I totally agree with you! My grandparents immigrated here from Spain in the late 1800's. They were hardworking people, and raised a family of hard-working proud people, who all had successful businesses. They all went through the great Depression and learned how to save and recycle. My uncles became quite wealthy through their hard work (and almost NO education I might add!) Although my own sweet daddy did not become wealthy in $$$, he was wealthy in wisdom and spirit, and small things made him happy like enjoying his gardens, cooking and fishing. The Spanish are a proud people, and I too believe some heritage needs to be kept while also adapting into the American lifestyle. I also regret that I did not become fluent in Spanish, but I certainly appreciate Spanish food and culture.

That said, in Tampa, most all Spanish speaking people also speak English. I don't know which city has the most, but I would guess Miami since it is the largest and in South Florida.
