What's going on with this high speed rail, or rapid transit that i heard about being proposed a while back? From what i saw it looked like they wanted to build a high speed rail system from tampa to orlando to miami and back. I haven't heard anything since, was this just a rich man's dream or has there been any progress made on that? Is it a real possibility eg. does florida have the funding and what do florida residents think about it?

It's sort of like Rome. Neither were built in a day. Rome had an advantage. No one was there to sue and block every mile of right of way because.......

If some sick poltical minds decide to build such Pharaonic projects drinking taxpayers' blood,
there must be a grassroots effort to stop them...

Mass transport is the symbol of socialism.
We want wider highways, with more lanes,no speed limit & low cost of fuel.

Our economy & prosperity is based on private cars, not on public transport...

I'm all for it. Florida is in line for federal stimulus money to get a portion of the project moving. It's an investment in the future.

Realize that our roads are all shared and built and maintained by the government anyway. If you want to see a sick waste of taxpayers money, check out the new I-595 project in Broward County. How about a privately owned railroad?

If I remember correctly about two years after it was approved they said there's no money for it so it's off.

I know I heard about it in the news within the past couple of days again, but I never watched the segment on it. I figured it would fall through again. I personally would like to have public transportation everywhere, but we're no NYC here. Where I live the county buses don't even come.

I would settle for restoring Amtrak service through the Panhandle again. I find it hard to believe that the tracks are still damaged from Katrina.
