Hello all ~ Im posting in the general forum of Florida looking to get feedback on St. Johns County School District.

I have a 12 yr old in gifted and talented and was told to look into this school district since he will be going to high school pretty soon ~.

I was in the Jacksonville Forum requesting info and after researching was guided into looking in this district/area.

Planning to move from NJ to Jacksonville/St.John's County area **(in Summer 2010)**. Only that I am not familiar nor know the name of the towns in that county.

Ive heard a lot of Ponte Vedra and thats pretty much it ~ Im thinking job wise we will have to look in Jax area and we will both have to look. Im aiming more towards working within the school district ~

We have a child w/ autism (8) G&T (12) and possible adhd (5)-going for diagnosis soon

If anyone can give me info on the schools and towns in that county would be great and I was suppose to post in the Jax Forum let me know and I will move it -

Thank you, -Mariam

Well I'm not an expert but I went to public school in St. Johns county (high school only, private school for K-9). I went to Bartram Trail and they had a pretty nice AP program - I got out of school with about a semesters worth of credits for college under my belt. Bartram Trail is a young school (maybe just now hitting the 10 year mark) and in a nice area. Not exactly a center for diversity (fruit cove, my home for 20 years, is pretty upper-middle-class white) so if your child is interested in the arts, dance, writing, or theatre I reccommend Douglas Anderson, Jacksonville's magnet school. However, if your child merely wants to do some sort of gifted program Bartram is nice, there is also a new high school on Russell Sampson. Also, neighboring Nease (closer to Ponte Vedra) has an IB program, which is a little different but also very good.
I went to private school and duval county and when I went to public highschool in st. Johns many of my friends went to public high school in duval, and though not all the schools were bad there were many I would avoid. This is all pretty basic stuff though, schools are funded by propety tax so typically a nicer area equals a nicer school. Hope this helped!
