I posted in anoher thread that Allstate would not renew us and I got so many helpful suggestions about other ins co. We decided to go with tower Hill and the agent said we would be no problem since we do not live in a flood Zone and we are more then 10 miles from the Gulf.We are about to go with them but I am now having second thoughts. She has just told us that when we sign the paper work the policy will start. OK, FINE. she then said that they have 90 days to cancel us if they should send someone to look at our house and find something wrong. Is this normal. We have been with Allstate for so many years I have no clue. My husband is not worried but I am.Should I be???

Our home was built in 88 so it is not up to code but they know this and it is also in writing. I just don't want them coming back at us in 90 days saying they have to charge us more or cancel us for no reason since that 90 days is during hurricane season.

You should not have a problem. This normal.
If they come out to your house and they look at it and find that you misrepresented it - maybe you said it was a single family home and it is a trailer - then you'd have problems. If they come out and find that your roof is in desperate need of repair, they'd probably just tell you to repair it within a certain amount of time and you show them the receipt when done. They want your business, they'll be reasonable. Just don't start any new projects, like a deck or something, until after they've come out and taken their pictures...no need to rock the boat. |

When I went with St. Johns, they had to have a picture of the back and front of my house from the beginning...where as Allstate had just been happy with a picture from the street in front.
I think they are just trying to make sure that there isn't already a HUGE hold in the roof you are trying to pass off on them. |

I actually do this as part of my job - I take pictures for the underwriters for the insurance company I work for. My company is not strict at all - we just take a picture of the front and back. However, other companies will come and take pictures of everything from the roof to the air condition unit - and then ask you questions about the pluming and electrical. Also, if you have things on there "no no" list like a trampoline, certain dogs or even a diving board then the underwriters will cancel your policy. This is pretty rare in our company because if the policy is canceled then we do not get paid so we make sure that does not happen. The major things they look for is the roof and structure of the building since they really do not go inside. So if you don't have problems with them and do not have something on there naughty list then you should be fine.

We had HomePoint insurance. Someone came out to take pictures while we were out of state. They didn't bother to find this out - instead concluded that "the property looked abandoned." ??? Newly installed hurricane shutters and a thriving garden - and it looks abandoned?
Admittedly - this was last year during the rainy season - the grass had grown while we were gone. oops. They wrote us up because they claimed the shed needed repainting. There were accesses to the crawlspace that they didn't like. We fixed everything on their list as soon as we got back. We sent pictures which they claimed they didn't get (they did). We re-sent the pictures. And a few months later, they cancelled us anyway because they "don't insure in that zip code." Unreal. Welcome to Citizens. |
