Well not sure about all of Florida, but I know in Martin County you can have tinted windows, but you will get stopped if they are too dark-not sure how that is determined though

It is legal, its just the percentage of darkness that is illegal. The legal tint is plenty dark. Oh and tinting the entire front windshield isn't legal.
This link explains it http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/FL/

it is legal to a certain darkness, however many people have much darker windows and those mirror looking tint windows. I got pulled over once because the officer "claimed" my tag didn't register only for him to tell me he put in a wrong number but he also added that I need to tear the tint off my window or it will be $80 fine for each window that is tinted too dark. My tint is still on there. I'll chance it. I don't think it's enforced very much but it is illegal to a certain degree. There is a tool they use which i was unaware of at the time that determines if your tint is too dark or not. He didn't use it on my windows though. He just told me they're too dark. You can tint the top portion of your windshield to act as a sun visor but not the entire window.

It can't be reflective. You can't tint the windshield except for a small strip on top. The factory windshield may have very small markings showing how low you could go. It can't be darker than 28% light transmission. We carry tint meters but it is rarely enforced down here unless they are limo tints or something crazy. You will be safe with a 35% tint because some windows have a slight shade that is almost invisible.

All of the remarks about the windshield are accurate. All of the remarks about the limits to how dark the tint can be are also accurate -- for the windows on the driver's and passenger's doors. All other windows, rear doors, rear side windows on vans and suvs, back windows, etc., can be as dark as you like. Think about how opaque factory "privacy glass" is.

I agree with Miami Vice about what you can normally "get away with", I have 35% (the next step darker than the legal 28%) on the driver and passenger windows of my Sprinter van, and no one pays any attention. However, my son was issued a Ford Taurus company car which had been driven by a previous employee who had tinted the side windows much darker. He was stopped for that specific reason on I-95 and issued a ticket. He explained that it wasn't his car and he wasn't responsible for the tint, but it didn't matter. He had the driver and passenger windows re-tinted legally at his own expense.

I had my wife's Scion tinted nearly black on the rear hatch and rear door windows, but stayed with the legal 28% on the front side windows. The shop where I have my tinting done has a display of all the various degrees of tinting with the legal ones clearly marked.
