.....complain about hurricanes? If you didn't know Florida got hurricanes, you need to go back to school and take basic Earth science.
.....complain about lack of jobs? Isn't it smart to have a job already in mind before you move? Even if you don't have a job lined up, you should still research positions and pay. .....complain about the crime? We are the fourth (soon to become the third) most populated state. There is going to be crime anywhere you have a large amount of people. .....complain about immigrants. While it may get annoying having to listen to Spanish, the truth is they really do fill the jobs Americans don't want to take. .....complain about the heat and humidity. If you weren't expecting this, you need to retake 5th grade Earth science and geography. This is probably the reason we need so many immigrants, no Floridian wants to do an outdoor job. .....complain about traffic? Again we are the fourth most populated state in the country. We do have traffic just like every other populated area. I am all for discussing problems and solutions on here. However, I can't help but laugh when people list these reasons as why they are moving out of Florida. Basically, people want a not too hot, not too cold, totally English speaking area with high paying jobs and no natural disasters, crime, or traffic. Well, if anyone finds that spot I hope they will post it here on CD so everyone can move there and stop complaining. |

I was born in Florida didn't pick it as a place to live, it wouldn't be my first choice if I could of picked. But pretty much all of the things you think people are complaining about have gotten worse since I was little. So that is why people are probably complaining more, because just 10 years ago Florida was much better than today. We had IMO less crime in parts of the state due in part to less people, less traffic, less hispanics, the hurricanes were not as active in hitting Florida, whatever.
I agree there is no utopia. But IMO there are places with less traffic, less crime, etc...but these places may have other issues like earthquakes, a constant drizzle of rain, snow, etc. I love how people label one another as complainers when they say stuff like Florida is hot and humid. It is hot humid, a fact, not a complaint. |

People like to complain. People like to blame everyone else for what is wrong. People like to find blame to put on things. People like to cast stones.
Some are bound & determined that uptopia exists. Keep in mind, some of these people like living in the hicks w/o civilization. I, for one, am more than glad to keep Starbucks in business and like to see people on a daily basis, not wild animals. But, then, there are legitimate reasons people are upset. And I think it is REALLY EASY to weed out the legitimate from the stone-throwers. Really easy! Peronally, I am only here b/c my husband got a great job here & loves eternal sunshine. I am for the four seasons & the midwest. Believe me, we will be back there one day. I am here UNTIL retirement But, making the best of it. Not much else that can be done. Aspects of it I don't like, but there are worst things in life other than Florida.... We lived in central TX for 5 yrs; my husband spent 12 months in northwest Baghdad where temps of 127 were normal in summer. We don't complain about the heat...my husband will give me a look of death if I mention 85 degrees as being "hot". To move here & complain about the heat...that is basic ignorance. The legitimate ones just want to voice their opinions. And I think the legitimate ones are the ones who were born here, still live here, & are trying to fix the problem, not keep playing a broken record. Those who moved here & things didn't work out...call UHaul, back up your stuff & move. Ironically, so many who hated living here spend lots of time on the Florida forum. Makes no sense to me. I don't go over to the TX forum knocking it b/c I didn't like it. But that is just me. |

I wonder how many people on here are natives? Maybe more than we think.

I am a native so I just learned to deal with things. I travel a lot and realize that people have different preferences. It just seems that the Florida thread has more negativity than the others.

I say where ever you live, if you don't like it, pack and move...whinging on about is pointless...
Every place has its downsides, I am willing to put up with alot in order to have nice weather and the beach... |

People born here can complain....
______________________________ This is a public forum. Everyone has a right to discuss reasons they left Florida. I have read many opinions since last year, and hurricanes weren't one of them. Hurricanes were the least of reasons why we left. Life is complicated. |

.....complain about hurricanes? If you didn't know Florida got hurricanes, you need to go back to school and take basic Earth science.
I think that we're all aware that Fla. has hurricanes. If we didn't learn it in earth science, we've surely heard about it the past few years. .....complain about lack of jobs? Isn't it smart to have a job already in mind before you move? Even if you don't have a job lined up, you should still research positions and pay. Many of the people do have jobs when they move down there. But it really doesn't do a lot of good unless you plan to stick with that job for the duration since the job market isn't good for a lot of professionals. Actually, many of the people ARE researching the job market and pay and have not yet moved down there. That's why so many post here asking questions about it. .....complain about the crime? We are the fourth (soon to become the third) most populated state. There is going to be crime anywhere you have a large amount of people. Crime stats are proportioned out according to population so I'm not sure what you mean by that. .....complain about immigrants. While it may get annoying having to listen to Spanish, the truth is they really do fill the jobs Americans don't want to take. Most of the complaints about the new immigrants are because they don't want to assimilate. Often Floridians post about how they hate it when someone from such and such state tries to force THEM to change and do things the way they were done in the other person's state. So it would only stand to reason to complain about the immigrants who also want to make things just like their home country. They don't want to learn our language or be Americans so that complaint is a very valid one. But often the MAIN complaint isn't about the immigrants. It's about the illegal aliens. .....complain about the heat and humidity. If you weren't expecting this, you need to retake 5th grade Earth science and geography. This is probably the reason we need so many immigrants, no Floridian wants to do an outdoor job. I believe that most of us know that Florida gets quite warm and humid. .....complain about traffic? Again we are the fourth most populated state in the country. We do have traffic just like every other populated area. We're also aware of the traffic and it's probably more conversation about how it's becoming congested in some areas. If someone wants to move out of Florida OR into Florida, it's their personal choice. For some people, the heat may be more then they like. For Americans, English is the preferred language. For others, they may have been devastated by a hurricane and have had enough. I've never really questioned the reasons people give for leaving or moving there. I've always thought it's their choice of where they want to live. |

I've said it before (and gotten attacked for it) and will say it again: A little due diligence goes a long way in determining whether a move to Florida is right for you.
