My vote would be Destin or similar on the Emerald Coast.

Nevermind the above. I see you were referring to Emerald Coast parkway. I agree anywhere around Destin will suit me fine, I like easy and laid back living

We share the same views with On-da-Beach.

Here are some photos from a few days ago on the "Emerald Coast" and Beaches of South Walton:

What are you looking for exactly?

Do you like big cities? Do you like small towns? Do you have kids? Do you like pro sports?

This area is great for family. I live in Blue Water Bay (Niceville) just on the other side of the bay from Destin. Its a smaller community, a lot of military, but thats a good thing. There are some artsy things to do here, and there are local sports teams. However, if you like living close to a really big town, you might want to look down towards Tampa.

Don't get me wrong, I love it here. I have a young son, and I am from the south. So the "Freaking Lower Alabama" tag doesn't scare me. Destin is really racially diverse as well. However, the surrounding area is not so much. This is very much the bible belt. And forget pro football or racing. You're in for a 5 hour drive to get to that.

If you want to get away from it all, move here. If you want the beach, and you want a big town environment, then you might want to look a little further south.

My vote is for the Sarasota area. I'm 37 and feel very comfortable here. I was born and raised here and there are lots of younger folks in town.

It has lots of arts and culture and the number one rated beach in Florida-Siesta Key. You should visit before you cross it off of your list.

I know I DEFINITELY want to live on the Gulf side and I want to live in a small beach community (these are musts). Now my question is (given the above) where would you move in Florida? Look forward to hearing all your imputs. Feel free to ask any questions too!
Thank you all!!!
Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Navarre .... with Destin being the first choice . It does get crazy busy though from June thru Aug. which is the height of tourist season.

Thank you everyone for your input, much appreciated! I'm from a big city but I don't enjoy it anymore and I've lived here for 30 years so it's time to do move to what I love.. a small beach community. My question is this Santa Rosa beach and Navarre smaller than Destin? Do they have less tourist traffic than Destin? Happy New Year in advance!

Default 2 Places I think of....

The 2 places which are spectacular on the Gulf Coast are Sarasota & Captiva/Sanibel. Not as overly developed as Naples. The beaches are amazing.
