"I understand that if you move to a nice area because it is peaceful, that I am part of the problem of making the place larger and less peaceful"
That may be one way to look at things, but you may also be an asset to an area. As long as we all take only the best we have to offer along with us and a positive attitude and the willingness to adjust to the customs of the new area, we can have a good life and so can our neighbors.
We've lived in an area with four seasons our entire lives. We love three of those seasons, but have just had enough of winter. Good luck to you in your move.

Anyway, firstly the median income for the state is $38+k and that would be counting all the Drs and lawyers and the zillion "retirees" who only work weekends for their fun money. Secondly, the median home price is just over $257k. Median... half the homes are over that price and half are under $257k. Who says you have to buy a $300k or $500k house?? There are plenty out there way under that. You don't need a PHD to afford a home here, be realistic.
Your previous posts complained that the home prices have gone way up, but the incomes didn't. And your friends are "stuck" in their starters. I can understand the delema in not being able to move up in house like they were expecting but I really don't get what is such a bad thing about your starter gaining you TONS of TAX-FREE money!! Y'all should be glad you're homes are increasing so much. It's a good thing. Now, if you bought in a hot RE area, you may end up being out-priced eventually and will have to look farther out from town to get into another house, or you will have to raise your income. So the answer to your question "When are people's INCOMES going to change... to match the higher prices", the answer is when YOU change it.
I giggled because you ask who can afford these expensive homes, then discounted the high incomes and high degreed people (your answer!) that make up a very large portion of the population. Obviously the good jobs are here or there wouldn't be buyers for all these homes. You gotta move into the right field. Bamboo hit it right on the head. If you want the house they can afford, you gotta earn it.... or move to a cheaper area, just that simple. All the folks that leave Florida for cheaper places are replaced by newcomers with the money to buy here. Hey, not everyone can afford to live in NYC either. Those that can, pay for it. Those that can't, commute.
I myself can't move up into another house either, but every day the values go up is a celebration.
lol still giggling

Enough about the doctors and lawyers! Everyone knows those professions can afford whatever home they want. Why do you keep bringing that up? I gave you my answer why i do not think they count in this RE issue....for the final time NOT EVERYONE IS A DR, LAWYER ETC SO WHY WOULD I COMPARE MY INCOME TO THEIRS. No, you do not need a PHd to afford a home here, of course not, i never said you did, BUT to afford a $300,000 home, YES, you DO need to make 6 figure income, unless you want to be house rich and cash poor. Not my cup of tea. And it's not that simple just to move to another cheaper area of town! You obviously must not have children. I for one am not going to move my kids to Pine Hills (a poorer area of town) and move out of my "A" school county so i can have a cheaper home....not realisitic expectations. Just like i HIGHLY doubt your home is still going up in value...do you not know what is going on in FL??? homes are just sitting there with their "FOR SALE" signs up for months. it's a BUYER'S market....ya still laughing???

And the cloudiness continues. All NK is saying is:
1. Salaries have not increased with home prices
2. That's not good (disparity in the fundamentals = correction)
I don't understand why the "cheerleaders" can't see why this imperils the whole state and the economy. Don't politicize ths issue: nobody discussing home prices has advocated laziness and handouts. NK isn't asking for anything other than a rational marketplace driven by the people that live in it. This is where Florida went terribly wrong.
It's funny that "Ph.D." was mentioned. There was a Miami Herald article the other day that said Florida universities were having a hard time attracting and retaining qualified staff becuase of cost of living issues. Yeah, so even rocket surgeons are having a tough go.
As an aside, I don't buy the myth that NY'ers are rude. Any person that has lived in NYC knows that you will receive more help there from random strangers than anywhere else in the world... and at least with NY'ers you know the score.

I had to giggle at the "doctors and lawyers don't count" bit though... that's a huge part of the population in my area. There are alot of rich people around these parts that can afford these 500k homes. I see hummers and $150k porsces, rolls royces, etc every day here. Yes of course Dr.s and lawyers count, they make up the population. lol

Elfyum, The inclusion of expletives in your colloquy is your choice. The majority of people think it is wrong. I don't want it said around children all the time. I was taught that was bad manners. By the way, where are you from?

(Just incase... My caps are a proud & jovial scream not at all meant as an obnoxious response! Thank you Muggy-we ARE quite helpful! (when we wanna be. )
And where are YOU all from? By the way calc: I work with someone from Da Bronx & you CANNOT curse around her! She's cool, so when I "slip" (read prior post about my colloquy ) I say, "Oh woops, I forget..." What can ya do? Different strokes... She's reborn so I'm assuming this is the reason though... Just sharing cause I wouldn't be surprised if you too were from NY!
