I wonder how they will handle the situation with the Brits who own vacation homes here and have cars registered here. They can't register them without a FL license, and they can't get a FL license. There's a selection for Canadian, will they treat the Brits (and Swedes and the rest of the Europeans) the same as the Canadians?

To prove your identity, you will need a valid passport or an original birth certificate. If your name has changed since birth (say, because you got married) you’ll need a marriage certificate or other documentation.
How stupid is THAT?????????????? What a complete time waster.

Not really -- not when you consider the 9/11 hijackers had false IDs they had no problem obtaining....

I've gone through this in NJ, and again here in FL. The documents aren't that hard to obtain.

My Florida license expires on Jan. 5th

I currently hold licenses in Louisiana and Tennessee so I'll not renew Florida. The fact that it went up to $48 is probably the biggest reason.

I really do see your point and agree. However, had they done their job correctly all the previous years, everyone else wouldn't have to pay for it now. For decades so many of these agencies did a half a$$ job and now society has to double pay them to do it all again.

When I came back from TN to FL, I went to get my license at the DMV in Sanford, FL and when I went to show them my paperwork, The guy didn't even look at it, He said " Are you you ? " and I replied, " uh, yeah.. " and he said it was good enough for him..

I don't even drive anymore. It seems pointless to renew it, somehow.

This is another way to get people to make certain they have (and keep) social security numbers.

The reasoning will become apparent in a couple of years.............
