Default New to Bunnell, Need Local Info

I just moved to the Bunnell, FL area and need to find someone who can clean a Persian rug for me. I live about ten miles from Bunnell and work in Ormond Beach, so any place in between the two would be most convenient, but I would drive anywhere within a 25 or 30 mile radius to have it done.

I know nothing at all about the area, having been here for only a couple of weeks, so any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Hi Alikat,

If this is a true Persian/Oriental rug (hand knotted, not the machine-made type), I would recommend driving to either Jacksonville or Orlando to a reputable rug dealer.

In Jax, I can recommend Mussalem and they are conveniently located right off of I95 on Phillips Highway

Welcome to Bunnell!

Karpetmaster is local, very reputable & have been around for years. I'm sure they'd tell you if it was something they couldn't do & refer you, but their ad says they clean oriental rugs.

Yes, it is a true hand-made Persian rug, which is why I want a qualified professional to clean it.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. And thanks for the welcome... I already love it here.

Welcome from Palm Coast.

Ask if they do it in-house or send it out. Many cleaners that advertise that they do leather, etc., actually send those items to specialty cleaners out of town. In that case you are paying them as a middle man.

I can't imagine a cleaners in Flagler County that can could do specialty work in-house. From what I have seen they are operating store fronts and sending all their work out and charging up the ying-yang for their "service".

I am am looking for a BULK dry cleaner in a larger city. I've already been "taken to the cleaners" on the prices they charge around here.

Let us know how this turns out - who you find where and what kind of price and service you experience.

You dont want to go to Mussallems. The cleaning is not good at all.If the rug is antique you might not see it again.Trust me,no one in Jacksonville likes to deal with these guys. They have a bad rep.Try any oriental rug dealer in Jacksonville or Orlando but be cautious with these guys.

Really? I haven't bought from them myself (I've bought from Persepolis), but other than Mussallem and Jaffe, I don't know of any other big rug houses in Jax.

Persepolis is going out of business (slowly winding down), so that's why I did not recommend them.

This is the first I've heard Mussallem 'has a bad reputation'. They just redid their enormous showroom a few years ago, so someone must be buying their rugs .

Who would you recommend Lunarforces? Are there others I don't know about?

Default Mussalem

Was there a specific problem someone had with Mussalem? I just sent three of my good quality oriental carpets to be cleaned and appraised. What should I be looking out for?

Default Oriental Rug Dealers

The best cleaning we have found was at a place off of Hendricks Avenue. They are called ORH / Oriental Rug House. Most of my neighbors in the San Marco Area use them. These guys are one of the older rug dealers in town and super nice. They sell a lot of very fine antique rugs as well as new, both to dealers and the public.I actually saw two of the Mussallem family there looking to buy rugs the last time I was in there. If dealers buy from them, thats good enough for me.As for the Mussallem cleaning,it just isnt good.My rugs always looked dirty and still had sand when I used to use them. They have also done the never ending going out of business sales more than once.I have heard about many people getting ripped off by them.My aunt took a fine antique rug that was passed down to her for cleaning many years ago and never got it back. They insisted that some new rug was actually her rug.The stories are never ending.Jacksonville is like a small town.People talk a lot.Persepolis will probably reopen with a new name or location. Its an old oriental rug dealer trick.Go out of business for a year or more to raise funds then do it all over again. They raise the prices five times then tell you they will give you 70% off or some garbage.Check around before you buy or clean.
