Not to say the motorist aren't at fault, but the majority of time (at least in my area) pedestrians don't even look before they cross the street. I assume since the "State Law- Vehicles must yield to pedestrians" signs are there, they figure people will just stop.

It's very important people look both ways multiple times and only proceed when safe. Never assume a car is going to stop and never cross a road busy with traffic.

So what? Are you trying to downplay the problem and sweep it under the rug? Sorry honey, but that doesn't fly. Innocent people are getting injured and killed because of the stupidity and recklessness of drivers in south/central Florida. It is really no laughing matter.

The article is eye-opening as they specifically talk about how careless, inconsiderate, and ignorant they are in Miami/South FL. And that is what you appear to be overlooking.

Pretty crazy when someone (in Miami) asks, "What's happened to us as people here?" That's pretty eye-opening.

And then this... "Miami drivers are also notorious for carelessly parking their cars on sidewalks near schools, forcing children into the streets." WOW! How much more inconsiderate and ignorant can they get down there?
I spent a few summers in Miami and was shocked at the first couple of accidents I saw where one or both parties would speed away without as much as exchanging a $crew you. I was told a big part of that is the result of 'cultural differences' because of the high number of foreign born residents there. The sirens and flashing lights of emergency vehicles are also largely ignored. When things like this change it's very hard to get back to the way they were.

Driving in Florida is pretty challenging. There were 1500 hit and runs last year in the United STates, 490 of those were in Florida . . .Well, I guess you can blame the 490 hit and runs to those new yorkers, seems to be the trend in this forum.

Uh... to be fair, one post - the second, wasnt even me to begin with. The 1st post was a response to another poster, and if you look at the actual post, I said nothing wrong. And the 3rd and 4th were my posts, but they are in the Orlando forum.

One was a very strange experience I had in a very short trip, and the other was about 2 hit and runs, on the same stretch of highway, on the same exact night. Dont you think that's a bit odd?

It's also obvious that a lot of other posters are complaining about the same thing and also wondering why it's so bad in Miami.

Where did you get your false numbers from?

There were 490 in FL last yr, but I dont think there were only 1500 total. That would mean that FL accounted for 1/3 of all hit and runs deaths. Man, I hope that isnt right.

LOL. . .OP TIME Hit and Run Culture article cited 490 for FL 2009 and AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety cited 1500 for US 2009.

490 is the pedestrians killed in Florida, not hit and run. The article says the average pedestrian fatalities are 400 a month, so it should be about 4800.

I stand corrected as the 490 is not a hit and run stat, as you stated pedestrians killed, the average total of pedestrians killed in the US is ~5000 annually. Florida accounts for 10%, the most in any state.
