I think I know the place! It was probably North Fort Myers!

I'm originally from Massachusetts, where there are tons of antiques. Florida definitely is in need of antique dealers. I really enjoyed that antique mall, but the area just didn't support it.

I never miss Webster Flea Market, I can pay for our vacation by going there on Monday mornings and buying things to bring back here.

Thus the reason for the central location to live, I can go either direction to the antiques, flea markets, Mt Dora etc.

Just have to pick a place with schools being no 1 priority.
Thats a cool business. You make a percent of every sale or a fee even if it doesn't sell. I use to go to a few around Dania and I would buy stuff and never take it home just re-consign it back. I would often make 3, 4, 5, hundred a week and never touch the stuff. Sometimes lose but it was fun. I got so hooked I was going to an auction every night I could. I was buying warehouse sales everything. I am a little ashamed to say but I have enough stuff just stored in my house and warehouse now to start a thrift store, more then enough. I am not kidding, we can't even have company the place is so packed. If people saw how we lived they would think we were crazy. I have a 25 x 25 foot billiard room in the house and you can't hardly see the pool table much less play on it.

Pack Rat....my kinda guy. Always a treasure in there somewhere.

Yes, I got hooked going to Flea Market with my wifes grandpa back in 1980 and have been doing antique ever since.
I sell in 5 different antique malls and go to auctions 2 and sometimes 3 a week.
You can make some decent extra money doing it and it is not only fun but a challenge.
We want to be able to come back to our with a trailer and buy until its full and take back to Fla.
Dania... some good antiques there too.

What town are you in?

hmmm, let's take a look at this:

--you've been in Florida for 15 years
--you were brought here at a very young age by your parents against your will
--yet you yourself have a 16 year old kid

Uh huh.

As I suspected, ShepsMom is just another sock puppet created by the anti-Florida trolls.

I've been here for 15 years, i came here from Europe, i haven't lived anywhere else in US besides FL, and the more i stay here, the more i dislike it. So, i have my reasons to move out, you want to hear them?? I also would like to point good vs. bad

Humidity/Heat:
Good: for my skin
Bad: I love to be outdoors and i can't bare being outside when it's hot like this. It makes me cranky, moody, lazy. I need cool air to feel alive and healthy. I'm not a swamp person.

2. Bugs:
Good: for nothing
Bad: bloodsucking mosquitos, fireants and lovebugs are just getting old and annoying.

3. Nature:
Good: Beaches, very relaxing with beautiful sunsets, if you love the beach 24/7, because that's all you have.
Bad: beaches are overcroweded, dead fish, bad smell during red tie.

Good: Green. year round
Bad: You can't lay on the grass and enjoy the skies without being bitten by one of the above bugs, or a snake. Camping in the summer out of the question, but i guess you're not here to camp with your kids and be outdoors, are you? Don't try to go swimming in any lake in FL, or you might become a gator food. Tell your kids NOT to feed gators!!

4.Jobs
Good: if you are in Medical field, nurse, doctor, vet, etc....
Bad: low wages, you're overqualified for any job if you ask for more money. Ohhh, and don't forget, FL is a "right to work" state, get a job at your own risk. No Unions here!! Have you heard about Chinese Overtime??

5. Schools:
Good: ??
Bad: FL education probably the worst in the entire continental USA. I might be too critical about education here vs. Europe, but i find it rediculous for my 16 year old to have 1 page of homework. I can't afford Private School!! Guess who's became a teacher for my son? Myself!!

I'm not into politics, so i can't go into discussion regarding anything on the subject. For me personally, it's all about feeling good, staying healthy, being outdoors, enjoy nature and all it can offer. FL doesn't offer this type of living, it's flat and boring. I think West would be ideal for us.

It was pretty run down, we was passing through looked over and seen the table set up, we cannot pass those up.

We go to Mass, Conn, RI about once every 3-4 years for antiques and vaca too. tons of antiques everywhere, but also priced too hight o re sell.

North Ft Myers sounds right, it was on the left side of the route going through down.

Drive in movies are coming back here, they are full every weekend.

For me, the heat has everything to do with why I am moving. Florida has a smothering heat that I have not experienced any place else save South America. I have lived here my whole life and like another poster, I was brought here by my parents and always said that when I got the chance I was going to leave. Well my chance has come and next summer I am leaving.

Know Winchester too.... Front Royal as well, we always start down the parkway from Front Royal.

Last trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway we were lucky enough to spot a group of bears with new babies, it was an awesome sight.
We love going down the parkway to see the Biltmore Estates in NC and then onto the Cherokee Indian Reservations at the very end.

For those who have never been on the Blue Ridge Parkway, try it sometime, it is amazingly beautiful up there, start at Cherokee or Front Royal, you can get on and off when you want too.

We take a break and go down into the small towns like Luray and see the Caverns.

What town are you in?
Fort Lauderdale, it is about 3 miles north of Dania. We love going to garage sales you never know what you will find. My wife bought a pencil sketch by R.C. Gorman at a yard sale for $10.00. The girl said it had been a wedding gift and she thought is was worth something. Yea, about $1200 to $1500, and since he died a year or two ago it may have even gone up a little. I love garage sales.

I have a friend who likes to go on the beach with a metal detector. He never finds anything, maybe a bottle cap. Garage sales you never know what you may find, much better deal then the metal detector. In fact my wife just went out to the Winn Dixie to get a bunch of small bills for tomorrow, she goes out like 7 am. You keep your money in different pockets so you can deal and not show too much.

It's not good to talk someone down with the poor mouth, then if they agree ask if they have change for a fifty. I have a load of occupied japan and McCoy stuff in my attic maybe a few hundred pieces. Not worth much now since the internet, it is easy to find now, but still worth many many times what I paid. I don't care for flea markets that much, too many professionals, good deals are hard to find. My wife is the one who really know this stuff, she does a lot of research. She is the one who bought the Raoul Dufy about 20 years ago. That was a buy of a life time. It is worth a 100 times what she paid for it maybe more.

I came here at age of 19 and i had a 1 year old son. So, this makes me how old now? Don't you just hate being totally wrong with your accusations? I didn't come here against my will, where did you get this from? I really don't have to give you an explanation about my life in FL and why i lived here for as long as i had. If i HAD a choice, you bet FL wont be place i would go. So stop assuming and get on with your own life, i hope you are happy in FL. For me, it's time to move on.

You said your parents brought you here when you were young, I had assumed you were like 5 and were about 20 now. You were 19, thats not young to where you are under your parents thumb. I was in a jungle when I was 19. Why did you stay around for 15 years? You are 34 and still living at home? I am sorry, but you put it all out here for people to read and comment on.
