Title says it all - after putting hurricane shutters up for first time we want to find a better way for next time.

We have a 2 story house and windows on top floors are over 25 ft from the ground. Some can be easily reached by ladder, but are still too high to feel comfortable doing myself. And to make it even more challenging a couple windows are directly over a pool enclosure with no place to stand for install other than extending long 2x6 between a REALLY tall ladder and roof over lanai, and that's still dangerous.

Any recommendations on shutters that can be closed solely from inside the home? If not maybe the next best option would be to see if neighbors want to go in next time to rent a boom lift.

Thanks for the response. I'll have to take a second look but ones I had looked at showed needing a bracket installed on the outside.

Could you give some supplier's names, please? Or would one just ask for accordian shutters? In the Gulf Coast of Texas we used shutters that roll down, from top to bottom, and those can be closed manually from inside, or electronically (also from inside). I would love to have those but have never seen them in Florida.

What about impact glass windows? Electric powered accordion shutters are expensive as well.

Impact glass can be used but is often even more expensive than accordion shutters

I agree impact windows costs more than shutters but electric powered shutters are quite expensive. Impact glass also has advantages such as letting light in so you don't feel like you are in a cave and need portable lights on all the time.
The OP wanted something that can be installed from inside. Impact glass seems like an option as it is already installed.

Does anyone here have impact glass? It would be nice to have way to see out, but anyone have experience with that and benefits?
