We are relocating from Pittsburgh to the Sanford area in June or July due to the husbands new job. What area has the BEST schools to live in in the Sanford vicinity? Willing to live within 20 miles of Sanford for the better schools. Many Thanks.

We have been in Fl for 4 years now. Sanford has some good schools. Lake Mary area has better schools. Deltona also has good schools and so does DeBary area. These all run off of 17-92 area and are good areas. Sanford has some not so good areas, so please be careful where you go. We had lived in apts behind Lake Monroe for 3 years and we never had any problems. My kids are out of school. My sister has a dtg in Deltona Schools and my neice has a son in DeBary Elementary School which is definately a good school. I hope this will help you out. Karen

Thumbs up re: live in seminole county about 20 minutes southwest from sanford

I have lived in my area of seminole county for about 41 years and love it. [moderator cut]
Keep in mind that areas of Lake Mary are very low (flood prone). Areas of Deltona, sink-hole city. Just be careful and check into low areas. My parents remember hurricane Donna in 1960. Many areas in northeast seminole county, i.e. lake mary, markham woods road, deltona, deland had major flooding with that hurricane in particular and storms from last year.
Where I live has remained mostly high and dry through all the hurricanes.

Default Sanford Area

Hi, I currently havve a home in st. pete, but dow to my work in Orlando, need to live closer. I opted to bay a home in Debary, which is NORTH of sanford. I would recommend that you look there, or orange city, or even DeLand. I just don't like all the hustle of Orlando metro area.

you people are kidding me. The schools in sanford are scary. Seminole High is the 2nd top drug traficing school in Seminole county (Oviedo is the 1st). Mount Dora is your only hope. Stay as far away from Sanford as possible.

Lake Mary is one of the best places to live in the country(says CNN not me). I would not worry about flooding.
The schools are good but real estate isn't cheap.
I could sell my home here and buy the same thing for half price in Texas(which I'm considering).
With rising interest rates the inventory of available properties is rising but you won't get much here that's decent for less than $300,000.

Default I agree with SuzM

Which is why I'm leaving or pursuing private high school while my oldest is still in middle school. Lake Mary has great schools, haven't heard anything negative there.

out of the choices of Seminole County schools... Lake Mary High is one of the better ones... the problem is with the new housing in Lake Mary, the high school is Seminole High not Lake Mary High. I don't remember any flooding in Lake Mary during the storms..
