Hi all,

My family and I are planning a beach trip to the Emerald Coast panhandle area. Me, wife, brother and his wife, and my two little girls.

We want to rent a beach cottage or townhouse or condo near the beach. It need not be on it.

Not knowing the area, I find looking overwhelming!! vrbo is where I have mostly been. The number of "towns" and resorts and complexes, etc, is amazing, and I cannot tell what is what.

Any suggestions of great areas, or are all of them just fine. We would prefer quieter to crazier. Amenities other than a nice beach not neccesary. We would like to be able to get about on foot or bike.

Any suggestions, please!?

If you are thinking of coming up to Nashville TN sometime, PM me and I will happily reciprocate advices.

Cheers,

We suggest any of the towns located along the Scenic Highway 30A --- Inlet Beach, Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Seacrest, Watersound, Seagrove, Seaside, Watercolor, Grayton Beach, Santa Rosa Beach & Dune Allen. This stretch of beach is a little more quiet than Destin or Panama City Beach and there is a nice bike path that runs the whole stretch of the Scenic 30A. You can rent bicycles from many places or they may come with your rental.

I second Watercolor and Grayton. It's almost Spring break time, so you might want to keep your kids away from Panama City. I know that they are "cleaning it up," but it's not done yet...

Watercolor and Grayton have some interesting shops. it's probably not at all, but it reminds me of the residential area of Santa Barbara. When it used to be nicer.

I like Destin, and I don't think the crowds are all that bad. It doesn't fill up as much as Panama City. There are waterparks and go-carts in the vicinity. The outlets are nice and they have more than the same three: Polo Reebok Mikasa.

You could probably still find a decent place on Pensacola Beach, but I think it gets pretty crowded, and I hate the tollbridge just to get back and forth. Once you do get out, you are still just in Gulf Breeze so you might as well have stayed in.
