I am asking anyone who knows about the Palatka area: areas to avoid, places where to rent, average rent, developping zones,..etc.
I am moving to this area in about 2 months and need to know about it as much as possible.
Thanks!

Where is that? Is it in the middle of the state?? I will look into it..
Ok, it is north Orlando and closer to the east coast than west. It is not far from Rt 17. It is east of Gainsville and Waldo Florida.
www.co.putnam.fl.us/palatka/
go and put than in.
see if this helps!

Palatka is considered by some to be the armpit of Florida, more rednecks per sq mile than anywhere else. I have driven thru it a few times and there isn't much there. I haven't been there in a few years but I don't remember any upscale apartments or stores etc.

Palatka
I live 45 miles from Palatka. People speed through there on their way from Gainesville to the beaches. And with good reason.
1) It's run down--they had a decent downtown decades ago, but it was pretty pathetic the last time I ventured off the main drag.
2) Crime.
3) There used to be quite a stench from the paper mills that would occasionally waft over to Gainesville years ago. Apparently it's improved somewhat.
The St. Johns River is very scenic. I'd look for rentals nearer the river. Upscale shopping? Forget it. Drive to Jax. for the day.
The cost of living is probably reasonable.

Putnam County/Palatka
Oh my. Nothing positive about the Palatka area? We might be relocating to that area from South Florida. Does anyone else have any advice, warnings, etc??
