Default Rural cities in florida

The NW Florida area has Milton, Pace & Jay. Lots of lots available and 30 minutes drive Pensacola, one hour to Mobile Alabama.

The most rural city in Florida? Unquestionably Mayo, Florida. County seat of Lafayette County, approximate population: 1,035. It has a new sweet little library, the courthouse has been restored, there is a great park "downtown" that has immense oaks. There is 1 motel and 1 hotel/Inn in town. One restraunt and 2 food stores. It is very close to the Suwannee and there are tons of wonderful springs nearby. Most famous resident? "The throwin Mayoan" Kerwin Bell, quarterback of the Florida Gators. This IS the most rural part of Florida, just south of Mayo is the immense Mallory Swamp. Take the 2 lane road headed southwest through a part of the swamp toward Steinhatchee some evening to see a wonderful night sky.

Default northern Fla.

Daedlo, it sounds like you've been up that way. I've seen the city of Mayo on a map. My brother has a friend who lives in Live Oak and Mayo is nearby. Live Oak is a bit bigger then Mayo though. Do you know anything about the city of Live Oak? Is it pretty?

How about Cross City, "the biggest little city in Dixie", on florida's Nature coast. Far enough in land to escape major hurricanes, a growing city, city water and sewer, definately quiet with low light pollution so you can see the stars. It even has an public airport.

3-/2 years ago we bought 5 acres in Okeechobee County for $36,000 or $7,200 per acre. Last October 2-1/2 acres in the same location sold for $125,000 or $50,000 per acre. The price has continued to go up. There is plenty of land left in rural Florida but there is nothing left at a low price.

I do not what you are looking for but one economical place (cheap) with both mobile homes and site built houses that often have one or more acres of land include areas by New Port Richey and Hudson. Areas called Moon Lake and Shady Hills are far from fancy in most areas, but you can make your dream come true relatively cheap. One acre with a mobile home can run as cheap as $75,000 or less. Just be careful to get high dry land worth building on (watch sinkholes, etc.) You will need a car to live there and some roads are not the best. There are plenty of rural areas in Florida....though I am city/suburban person myself.

I should add that this used to be a crappy area, but now there are expensive homes in places. If you even consider this place, do check out a spot worth investing in. Hey, if the guys and gals with big bucks live at areas over there, then it can't all be shi**y! LOL
