My husband and I both work IN, not for and are therefore 3rd in line. We want to move closer to shorten the commute, but I still dont see how there are kids who live IN the villages so thats why I was wondering.

Well, good grief, if you work there, wouldn't that be the place to ask?

Well, good grief, if anyone knew I would ask. This family section of the villages is something often talked of but no one knows of. Thanks for your opinion.....

I would call the developer directly and ask. Go right to the top. That is the way to find out stuff.

As long as ONE resident is 55 and over in the household, kids can live in that house too.

Jenrein, I know what you mean!
That is why we bought a house 6 minutes outside of the villages. My kids go to better schools now (not the villages, but Belleview) and they are so much happier (well, the high schoolers are!!!). Belleview schools are pretty nice, alot of parents in MO want their kids to go there, instead of Dunnellon Middle and High.
Oh, my utilities went down too! We had been paying $34 a month for water (we had a septic in MO)... NOW I pay $35 for Water, Sewer and Trash (trash is picked up twice a week here). I know I mentioned it before, but I would look into Belleview!!

6 minutes outside the villages? What little townships are there? I drove around to search out small neighborhoods with newer housing like that of Marion Oaks...but I got nothing. My lease is good til next June so I'm not in a hurry, but my list of demands in a house will be lengthy and therefore I want to allow enough time to find that special something.

there is indeed a family section of the villages, check into it. the school is for the children of employees of the villages or those who reside in the "family" section. children under 18 are not allowed to live in the Villages proper, that part (the biggest part) reserved for adults 55+

So it isnt a myth after all? Thank you! My kids already attend the school as I work IN the Villages...I just want to make sure at enrollment time each year we dont have to worry about sending them back to the public schools. When my second grader came home saying she did nothing but color and play for a week I was slightly worried. When my 6th grader came home late because they had to arrest 2 kids on her bus and escort them away in cuffs, I was like yah...great school! I knew NY schools were harder and we were lucky to be in a great district there, but I had no clue FL schools were so far behind.

The Villages Community Development Districts
I would check it out... Call the Villages Offices directly
Cobblestone is about 10 minutes north of the villages, it is far FAR nicer than MO, the homes run about $300+. In town you can find many very nice neighborhoods with pretty nice homes starting at under $160K.
Good Luck Jen! I know you will find something, you have lots of time to look around!!!
