the irony of florida being number 8 on the list when the "crime-ridden" areas of the northeast oh so many people came here to escape are in the 20s and 30s of that list.

Coincidentally, there is an article in today's Tampa Tribune about Ybor City, and how the people who live there are scared all the time due to the high number of shootings, stabbings, burglaries and other crimes. They want the city to do something, but this has been out of control for YEARS.

of course there are going to be cities with crime out of control. this is based on stats by state as a whole. things like this are accounted for, and all the crime and all the ppl (per capita) and things of that nature are all researched. just like ybor city, new orleans, detroit, memphis, la and philly, etc.... all have it's share of problems.

I can honestly say that I feel more frightened for my personal and children's safety since I moved from NY. Yea, there were always reports of rapes and such on the news here and there, but everything was concentrated in and around the city. Here, I feel like it is all over. I used to think nothing of going to the mall at night by myself back in NY - you will not catch me doing that here! Damn!!! I wish my husband never got tranfered here!

You see that Nevada is listed as number one, right? I lived there for 10 years and moved away just months ago to Florida. Well, I posted that link in the Nevada section of this site and everyone stomped their feet and had a complete fit that I would dare post that. They acted like I had influence over the outcome... go figure.

Yes, Detroit is a mess. It has more than it's share of problems, that's for sure.
