Hi, I currently live in Broward County, and am looking for a smaller town to live north of here appx 2-4hrs away. I would like a safe family area with access to a larger city possibly nearby. Would love to have unspoiled nature and water nearby. I homeschool, so it would be nice to find other homeschoolers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The best place based on what youve mentioned, would certainly be the Panhandle of Florida. Much less stress filled people, slower pace, strong christian culture with many who are homeschooled , fantastic beaches, close to Destin and Ft. Walton for good shopping and restaurants. Living inland by about 40 minutes will save you alot in housing yet its still close to the coast and major highways and I-10 . I like Crestview quite a bit, but others would be : Milton, Pace, Niceville, Valparaiso, FL. Ive been here a year now, and love it. Friendly people and easy making friends.

I would love to investigate that area, but I am trying to maybe stay within 2- 4hr range if possible. I have older children down here that I would like to be semi-close to. I have heard that the area is wonderful though, and maybe I'll expand out that way eventually. Thanks!

I used to have to commute through Destin in peak tourista season. While traffic is not big city bad, it's can be impressively stop and go for a city of about 10K people.

There are very few appealing destinations in Florida that would fit your desires for peace and quiet. One that I would consider is Venice-----city of about 22-23,000 people about 15 miles south of Sarasota along the coast.
A nice quiet town----scenic---moderate traffic and free from a lot the hassles and baloney South Florida throws into your lap.

St Augustine would be a lot slower paced than Broward county
