Default Best place in FL for 23 y/o?

Hi all.

My family is moving out to CA and I'm left alone in CT with high housing prices, ridiculous taxes and SNOW! I was thinking about moving out to CA but I just can't afford it.

Do you all know any places in FL that cater more to people around my age? I'm a college grad with a degree in Criminology and Psychology--might want to be a cop but I'm still unsure.

I'm looking for a town (preferably on the beach -- east or west, doesn't matter) that has friendly people, close to civilization and good nightlife. My girlfriend and I will be moving together, and we can only afford about $900 total for rent (1-2br).

If you can help me out with a few suggestions, we would both be very grateful.

I'd look towards the bigger cities.

Since you want to be near/at the beach, I'd look at Tampa/St Pete and Jax. I'm partial to Jax (Atlantic over Gulf, for one), but both are nice cities for young people.

Orlando has a lot going on, but it's in the center of the state (no beach), and Miami would probably be nice, but so expensive and you've ruled out California for cost of living.

Maybe try poking around the Tampa and Jax forums and see what's there for you.

I would suggest as a young person that wants some sort of nightlife to stay close to the bigger cities. Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. I am sure you can find a place in all of these cities for $900, but you will get less for your money in South Florida (Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami) as the cost of living down there is much higher than the rest of the state. Jacksonville will be the place you will get the most for your money probably.

Uma313 is on a distinguished road
I dont know anything about the east coast of fl, but i'm a 23 y.o. and i moved to Bradenton from New England after i graduated college last year....Bradenton is great, i absolutely love it here..it's close to the beach...close to Sarasota, St.Pete and Tampa for nightlife... people seem pretty friendly down this way, i havent had a problem making friends so far of course there are areas that aren't the greatest (crime wise), but you are going to get that any where you go...and you can find some decent places to live around here to fit your budget.... good luck with your move!
