If you are concerned about schools then you might want to check into Sarasota county. It has Pine View School, the highest rated school in the state and one of the highest rated in the Nation. Pine View is a public school so there would be no charge to attend. Your child does however have to test into it. The Sarasota county school district is consistently rated very high.

Sarasota is also close to the beaches and overall a pretty laid back city.

Here's another website for checking different schools and districts: School Accountability Report...

Might be a bit of a commute from Sarasota to his options for work in Orlando, West Palm, or Fort Lauderdale.

I suggest doing a cost of living comparison on the communities you are looking at. Frankly, in my opinion. FL is pretty small and you can get to a lot of places in a few hours drive. I am all about stretching my dollar. It is no fun to have less money and not be able to do as much fun stuff because you cannot afford to do all of it. From what I hear a majority of the schools are not that great. However, each city has its own areas where they have good schools. Determine which city you would like to live in and then go to that specific forum and start asking about good neighborhoods that have good schools.
