Default Snow in Tallahassee?

I apologize if this is a dumb question. We are moving from Michigan to Tallahassee next month. I don't know much about the city, but since it's in the panhandle area, does it snow there? What's the weather like year round?

Also, if you have teens, what's there to do there? My kids will be going to Chiles High, and when we were there in Tally, I didn't see much for teens to do? Just curious.
Thanks so much.

snow is very unlikely but not impossible, you might have a few nights where it gets below freezing, and like most places except s fla, cool in winters, hot as hell in july and aug

I went to Florida State a few years back. Lived in Tally for 4 but haven't lived there for awhile. I can tell you that one of those years, it snowed. It wasn't much but we loved building a small snowman out on Landis lawn. It lasted about 2 days. That was it.

Tally has some weird weather patterns too. Must be because of the hills it's built on which are some of the biggest in Florida. I know I've personally seen it listed as the coldest spot in the nation several times. Usually around November or so. That's very rare but it does happen. Check the place out here in the forums or go to the database and see what the temps are. Its mostly moderate year round.

Up until a couple weeks ago, I lived on the coast about two hours west of Tally.
There is definitely a change of seasons.
I heard there was real, measurable snow back in the 80's.
Last winter, it did occasionally get quite cold and I briefly saw sleet, but that's about it. Inland, lin Tallahassee, it might get colder in winter and hotter in the summer.
As far as what there is to do, I guess it depends on what your kids like.
It being a college town, I would think that there are activities which appeal to young people: concerts, movies, sports etc.

Winters can be a bit brisk (by Florida standards - but, snow?? You can sell your snow equipment - this will never be a issue in Florida.

Enjoy!

It's a rarity and will probably never be much of an issue, true. However, I still have my copy of the Miami Herald from the 70's with a 1 word headline: SNOW! The picture showed some kinds writing a smiley-face on the hood of their car in the snow.

Also, I can assure you it gets cold up in Tallahasse in the winter. Not something for anyone coming from Michigan to worry about, but after you get "Floridized" for a few years, it'll seem pretty cold.

Bring a reduced version of your Michigan winter wardrobe. You will need sweaters and maybe even a scarf or two for a couple weeks out of the year. There will also be a few days per winter you'll be scraping ice off your windshield!!!

It can even get cold in January in South Florida. There were a few days in my childhood when the temperature got down into the 20s. Not many, but a few.

Most new homes in north FL are built now with fireplaces, as it does get nippy on some days, but it is nothing like it is in Michigan.

As for snow, what little has fallen in north florida in the past generation would not pile up to a light snowstorm most places. It looks more like frost and does not last.
