That stuff is easy to say but you actually have to play those war games in your mind or even for real and really know what you will do without worrying about embarrassing yourself or worrying about offending someone. If someone approaches you in a parking lot you don't know and you feel uncomfortable in any way and you scream at them "Get the F away from me". If they only wanted directions, too bad, don't be walking up to someone in a parking lot.

I cringe when anyone approaches me on the street here in ny--not because I'm afraid but because I just assume (often correctly) that it will be some BS ("I left my wallet at home by accident, can I borrow $10" kind of stuff)

macguy,

That reminds me of kicking someone in the go nads just because he was running behind you to try to catch the bus.

I know we can get carried away easy, but my husband suggested this maneuver if someone was trying to rob you and were in your face.

I certainly would relinquish my purse, wallet, jewelery etc..if someone was robbing me. How many little old ladies have broken a hip or worse by not letting go of their purse in a purse snatching.

I used to carry mace in Nassau, and I almost used it on a creepy guy once that was harassing me while I was out jogging. I pulled it out and pointed it at him and he took off.
