Whats with all the white on the inside?

I look at homes in Florida a lot and a LOT of the houses seem to be white on the interior, not to mention the white floor tiles.

Why is that? I favor a little color and wood floors

I do know that when selling some people will turn there homes back to a neutral color. Many people have tile instead on hardwood as most are built on slab.

I have to agree with Donna, the white walls is probably to make the walls as neutral as possible, so that the perspective buyers can put their own colors on the walls. As for the tiles, like Donna explained most foundations in Florida are concrete, and tile keeps the home cooler in my opinion than wood does. My dogs come in after being outside and lay down on the tile instead of the rugs to get cool. Tile is also much smarter to have than wood when a hurricane comes. A friend of my parents had tile through out their home when Hurricane Andrew went over their home, they swept out the water after the storm, and it dryed. May parents on the other hand had to rip out the carpet and replace it all, took weeks to replace. The replaced the rugs in most of the house with tile (except the bedrooms). So tile is much easier. As for the tiles being white too, it just depends on when the home was built, years ago, white tile was the thing to put in, now its more of a cream color usually.

In a lot of older homes, the tile is original to the house, and as long as it's in good condition, It's hard to justify the hassle of taking it up for something else. For newer homes that were originally carpet over slab, you see more of a mix of tile and engineered hardwood/laminate as people replace flooring.

Carpet really doesn't make sense here. If you're close to the beach, it traps too much sand; if you're inland, it traps too much pollen during spring allergy season, and for so much of the year, it just seems too warm underfoot.

As for the white, if you're looking for a neutral, it's got more of a Spanish/Caribbean vibe, which so many people down here do want, it's more in line of that than a tan/beige is.

We have windows along the entire back of our home which is on a creek, and having white paint with no curtains allows us an unfettered view of the wildlife and water views. I've noticed that most of our friends who have such views also tend to do white, off-white or very pale colors.

I don't know and I guess I didn't notice when we were looking.

Our house has mostly light yellow on the walls... white in the kitchen. Kitchen tiles are kind of marbled... pretty; I like them, and the rest of the flooring is wood laminate.

We are going to paint the living room teal and off white and keep the kitchen white. Something MUST be done about the pink ceiling in the bedroom though!
